Botanic Garden
Job Summary
Assists Education and Outreach Coordinator in planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating educational and outreach programs, both on-site and in the community. Supports the Education Coordinator in leading all field trips.
Temporary employees are employed according to departmental need and the length of time will vary by workload and may not exceed 1300 hours worked in a 12-consecutive month period.
This position works on an as needed basis and is non-benefited.
Responsibilities
Assists with providing free and fee-based programs for adults, youth, children, and families.
Assists in the setup, delivery, and cleanup of Science and Social Studies content to school groups, mainly PreK - 5th grade.
Develops educational programs that support Georgia Performance Standards for area school children.
Implements the Garden's Interpretive Plan by working on signs, brochures, and tours for the casual visitor to the Garden.
Works with the Director and other staff to plan and implement special events.
Assists with other activities as requested.
Performs related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Required Experience
Working knowledge and familiarity with education, history, horticulture, botany, ecology and/or natural science
Computer experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's or advanced degree in horticulture, biology, botany, ecology, history or education
Two (2) or more years in an educational setting developing programs for diverse audiences
Three (3) or more years planning and leading K-5 school groups in active, outdoor education in history and biology
Knowledge of the flora of the coastal plain
Desktop publishing skills
Proposed Salary
$17.55 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
