Game Feature Designer manages the polish and optimizations of individual features. Responsible for writing narratives, working out UX flows for optimal usage, and modeling the economic impact of a feature through data and statistical methods, conducting A/B tests to validate the tuning impact of individual features, and evaluate the results of these tests to ensure we strike a positive balance between engagement and revenue.
Work with Art, Product Management and Analytics to provide feature specs and models that achieve both product and player experience goals. Report to Head of Product.
Essential Job Functions:
Deliver on the game vision set by the Creative Director and various Product Owners.
Design, develop, and maintain multiple overlapping game economies at scale.
Develop and implement adjustments to live economic systems to drive key results
Run reports and provide analysis of current game balance and economic health
Work closely with UX/UI to design wireframes and storyboard prototypes
Build and maintain a set of reusable models for managing repeated event content with slightly fresh tuning each run.
Work with art, engineering, and production to ensure sprint features maintain high quality and match the intended design through the development process, at times making last minute cuts/changes to account for unanticipated edge cases or implementation issues.
Lead playtests with Production and QA of features and builds to ensure excellent quality every sprint release.
Work with Analytics to collect data on player behavior to identify areas of opportunity
Support ongoing live operations, working with the Community, Art and Marketing team members to build exciting, fun, and economically prudent event schedules with thematically relevant narratives and game copy.
Evaluate notable competitors and share key insights / learnings to test.
Work with QA to document and improve our testing processes and best practices
BS degree in Math or Sciences.
Robust understanding of the mathematics required to balance game economies.
4+ years industry experience with free-to-play game balance and economies.
1+ shipped free-to-play title where you were directly responsible for system design and balancing.
Passionate about the product and have a strong desire to move the genre forward.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Deep understanding of stat curves, player progression systems, and gameplay loops.
Excellent creative, analytical and organizational skills with sound ability to write, communicate and maintain detailed design documentation throughout project life cycle.
Expert Excel/Google Sheet Skills and Proficient in Powerpoint/Google Slides
Ability to develop positive relationships and communicate effectively with Developers, QA, Analysts, Product Managers and Producers.
Strong starter who can quickly get up to speed on new markets and products.
