Job Type: This is a part time, exempt position.

General Description:

The primary function of the Graduate Assistant for Intermural Sports and Recreation is to assist students in maximizing their opportunities for performance, build community among intermural teams, assist with campus recreation activities, and work closely with the WWU athletic department. This individual must be dynamic and willing and able to reach out to others. The Graduate Assistant (GA) must be capable of positively responding to a wide variety of situations. The GA must be able to take initiative for programming, decision-making responsibilities, and be detail orientated.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

INTRAMURAL SPORTS

1.Manage intermural sports teams and schedules.

2.Assist the Director of Student Wellness with developing policies and procedures for intramural sports programs.

3.Manage a monthly intramural sports calendar

4.Point of contact for intramural sports questions and concerns.

5.Collect data on intermural sports throughout the academic year

6.Assist the Director of Student Wellness with management of recreation equipment and scheduling

7.Work with athletic department on intramural sports programming

8.Must be willing to travel to conferences, workshops, and trainings as needed

9.Use process improvement strategies and management software

Other duties will be assigned and are subject to change based on needs of the Office of Student Life and GA applicant skills and will be discussed and agreed on by all parties.

Position Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree (degree in Sports Management or related field, preferred)

  • Concurrent enrollment in a graduate program at William Woods University or a nearby university.

  • Understanding of student involvement on a small college residential campus.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members, faculty, students and parents.

  • Ability to work without constant supervision.

  • Genuine interest to work with college students.

  • Ability to exercise basic human relations skills in directing and motivating student leaders and dealing with varied constituencies on and off campus.

  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn software programs.

Work Schedule:

WORK SCHEDULE: This is a minimum 25 hour/week position with night and weekend hours as required. More than 25 hours will be required during particular times and hours can be "flexed", as necessary, to ensure student does not work more than the 25 hour requirement.

COMPENSATION:

  • This is a 10-month position to last 2 years; however, arrangements may be made to remain over breaks if housing is included. Housing assignments may change during the summer months. Checking in and checking out of housing should be arranged with the Office of Student Life.

  • Tuition remission for graduate classes at William Woods University for approximately 6 credit hours each semester (Fall, Spring and Summer).

  • Graduate Assistant may NOT hold a full-time job. Other part-time employment in or outside the university must receive prior approval from the Director of Student Wellness.

  • Professional development funds may be available.

Room and board (reported to IRS) to include a furnished room and access to cable, Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Meals only offered when the dining hall is open for traditional students.
