Founded in 1929, Los Angeles City College (LACC) is the oldest of the nine colleges that make up the Los Angeles Community College District, the largest community college district in the world. The campus is in the heart of Los Angeles, minutes from Hollywood and Downtown, and conveniently adjacent to major freeway arteries and public transportation, including the MTA and Metro. LACC is culturally rich with one of the most ethnically, ideologically and age diverse student bodies in the country. It is this diversity that drives LACC's long tradition of innovation and responsiveness to the changing needs of the times and its more than 17,000 students. Our programs range from serving the traditional transfer students to career training, dual enrollment, adult career advancement, cultural integration and personal enrichment. Courses are offered during the day, evenings, weekends, in-person or online, and through other specialized tracks.

The LACC Department of Radiologic Technology is seeking an equity-minded, dynamic, collaborative, and innovative Instructor to serve in a full-time permanent, tenure track C-basis (10 month) position. The position will begin in the Fall 2024 semester. This position involves instruction in theory, laboratory, and clinical settings. and the successful candidate, by the filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications for an instructor in Radiological Technology as governed by JCERT & CDPH RHB: EDUCATION and the standards set by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO).

DEPARTMENT

The Radiologic Technology Degree Program at LACC prepares you to work as a Radiologic Technologist in the medical field. Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Examination (ARRT) and pursue a Radiologic Technology License in the State of California. The Radiologic Technology Program aligns with LACC's goal of preparing students for a career pathway in a thriving industry.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • Bachelor's degree or higher and two (2) years of professional experience, or any Associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment.

  • Current American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) certification registration or equivalent in radiation therapy

  • Current valid, unrestricted CA license in Radiography and Fluoroscopy

  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, and ethnic backgrounds of the community, college faculty, staff, and students.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT COVID-19 VACCINATION SERIES and Health:

  • Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption. LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees' policy. Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In accordance with its mission as a community college, instruction at Lacc includes lower division courses. Faculty members are expected to facilitate student learning by designing engaging and inclusive learning environments using creative instructional design methods and varied learning modalities appropriate for in-person, hybrid, hyFlex, and/or online courses. Faculty members at Los Angeles City College are expected to facilitate student learning by designing varied and engaging learning environments. The successful applicant will be required to fulfill 33.5-hours per week as specified by the current AFT 1521 Union Contract; the assignment is divided between teaching and departmental duties as assigned. The regular weekly teaching load is 18 standard hours. Evening and/or weekend classes may be scheduled based on department needs. In addition to the regular weekly teaching load duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

§ Provide engaging instruction in current radiologic technology in theory, lab components, and clinical practice (e.g., medical terminology, radiographic math and physics, patient healthcare issues, patient communication and interactions, fluoroscopy, image production, digital radiography, proper radiographic and anatomical positioning, quality management, etc.).

  • Teach courses in theory, laboratory, and/or clinical components over the course of a year using creative instructional design methods that promote student involvement in active learning processes both in-person and via synchronous or hyFlex distance education formats at multiple LACC locations and at various clinical placement sites in accordance with established course outlines and schedules.

§ Provide accurate instruction in proper clinical documentation in radiology information systems (RIS) (e.g., Epic, Cerner (EHRs), PACS) and health informatics with knowledge and compliance of standards of confidentiality (HIPAA).

  • Work with the dean and the program director to use authentic learning assessment methods related to student learning outcomes (SLOs) and participate in peer-review of course assessment methods for Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) that prepare radiologic technology students for the JCERT licensure examination at the conclusion of the radiologic technology program.

  • Participate in the coaching, activities, and resources of the Guided Pathways Model to support student success.

  • Maintain scheduled office hours as outlined in the Academic Handbook for student contact.

  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge in the academic and clinical practice field.

  • Interface with the assigned clinical facility to maintain a desirable environment for the attainment of learning objectives.

  • Develop and update department course curricula and course syllabi for lecture, lab, and clinical courses.

  • Develop resources, materials, and strategies for active student learning and success using creative learning resources, multimedia technology platforms, and virtual reality modalities to teach students in a multicultural environment.

  • Collaborate with other instructors to continuously improve department development, peer learning, and creative team teaching in order to build an effective and strong program that supports student learning.

  • Active involvement in campus responsibilities in accordance with the AFT 1521 faculty contract (e.g., enrollment and recruitment events, committees, campus activities and events, department assignments, and graduation ceremonies).

  • Promote access, equity, and inclusion in screening, recruitment, and selection of students to support program growth and student success in accordance with the mission of the college.

  • Maintain certification and ongoing professional development in the Canvas learning management system (LMS) for course development, learning assessment, student-to-student and instructor-to-student learning and communication, attendance, and grading for in-person and/or online courses.

  • Assist in developing new courses and curricula as needed; provide creative learning scenarios and activities for optimal student participation and development of critical thinking (case studies, interactive and peer learning opportunities, mock exams and lab practicums, etc).

  • Actively participate in departmental duties (e.g., curriculum development, professional and departmental development, growth opportunities, advisory board meetings, and building connections with clinical sites and professional organizations, etc.).

  • Maintain collegial partnerships with professional organizations, clinical agencies, transfer programs, and community employers for program efficacy and growth, student employment, and degree-transfer opportunities.

§ Possess a commitment to collegiality within the instructional environment by interacting effectively with colleagues and maintaining active participation in departmental meetings and committees.

§ Ability to establish positive relationships and maintain collegiality with college personnel, department faculty and staff, and clinical and/or community.

§ Participate in JRCERT's Clinical Coordinator duties (as needed).

o Proficient in curriculum development, supervision, instruction,

o evaluation, and academic advising;

o Documents two years' clinical experience in the professional discipline

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master's degree in a health-related or management area.

  • Experience teaching radiologic technology at the community college level.

  • Advanced certifications (e.g., CT, MRI, U/S, mammography, radiation therapy, DEXA, interventional radiology, nuclear med, etc.).

  • Experience with designing creative learning scenarios, simulations, and peer-learning projects, etc.

  • Experience in teaching in dual-enrollment programs, or bridge-programs for transfer programs and degrees.

  • Experience in working with accreditation processes, and writing team reports

  • Experience with collaborative or multi-disciplinary team projects for health awareness or education at a community level with diverse populations

SALARY BENEFITS

The current starting range is from $72,990 to $135,620 for the 10- month academic year depending on education and experience. The doctoral differential is $4,610 per academic year. The District provides an excellent benefit package including medical, vision, dental, and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents.

6.Copies of current certifications by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) and the California Department of Public Health (CRT).
