Job Title: High School Chemistry Teacher

Reports to: WHS Principal

Department: Science, Secondary 9-12

Work Year: 184 days per Unit A contract

FSLA Status: Exempt, Unit A

Job Goal: The Chemistry Teacher fosters a love of learning that encourages student curiosity, engagement, and growth in a welcoming community of learners. Classes include College Prep, Honors, and Advanced Placement levels. Our science program follows the DESE grade-level curriculum standards and utilizes a variety of resources as instructional materials.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education:

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree from an accredited college/university in a related field

  • Professional Certification Required:

  • MA DESE license in 9-12 Science

  • SEI Endorsement

  • Additional certification in special education and/or ESL highly desirable

  • Specialized Knowledge: adolescent development, curriculum frameworks, growth mindset, inclusive practices, cultural proficiency, anti-racist instruction, co-teaching, social-emotional learning, technology integration

  • Hiring Requirement: Successful completion of DESE Mandated CORI and fingerprinting.

  • Preferred Experience:

  • Experience teaching English Language Learners and in a diverse public school setting

  • Experience with students with special needs, including students with emotional, behavioral, and/or learning challenges

  • Strong background in science instruction

  • Demonstrated skills in effectively and appropriately integrating technology into lesson design

  • Highly desirable to have experience with:

  • Co-Teaching

  • Technology Integration

  • Plan and implement differentiated lessons and ongoing formative assessments based on district objectives

  • Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional design with a demonstrated commitment to remain current in content knowledge

  • Partner and collaborate with team teachers, department colleagues, and specialists

  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents

  • Integrate technology in order to enhance and extend student learning experiences

  • Candidates should have a passion for working with students, families, and colleagues

  • Candidates must be flexible, collaborative, and have a growth mindset for themselves and students

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Provide learning experiences across all subject areas as guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements, while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and engagement.

  • Monitor students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate

  • Evaluate and refine instructional practice and assessment strategies to increase student learning, engagement, and confidence

  • Participate in professional development activities and meets district expectations for licensure recertification

  • Participates in all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed

  • Any other relative duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Chemistry Teacher does not have supervisory responsibilities for other staff, except to direct any paraeducators who may be assigned to his/her/their classroom.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary, benefits, and responsibilities per the contract between the Westborough School Committee and the Westborough Education Association.
