FY25 - Athletic Director

.6 FTE Release Time D Basis

The Athletic Director (AD) reports directly to Vice President of Academic Affairs. The AD is a leader to the team of Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Athletic Trainers, and staff. The AD directs and monitors the work of all coaches. The Athletic director is responsible for providing regular reports to Administrators

Responsibilities:

Reassigned Time Assignment (.6), D-Basis (12 Month)

  • The Athletic Director is a 12-month (D-basis) assignment with a .6 FTE released time position.

  • The Athletic Director regularly provides reports to Administrators.

  • Ensure compliance with college, district, and conference, local, state and federal guidelines including student- athlete eligibility requirements; disseminate information on and implement rules and guidelines for specific sports; compile, interpret and disseminate information pertaining to the NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA transfer requirements for our student-athletes.

  • In collaboration with the area Dean, develops and monitors the program budget through responsible fiscal management and coordinate athletic fundraising, marketing and public relations in compliance with the policies of LAHC, Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), South Coast Conference (SCC).

  • Develop, write, and edit all required documentation for Title IX compliance such as the annual Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act (EADA), CCCAA Gender Equity Form R-4, department mission, diversity and gender equity statements.

  • Develop, assess, and provide written reports of student learning and service area outcomes; conduct and write program reviews; and participate in activities related to maintaining accreditation standards of the department and college.

  • Schedule athletic events and secure officials, transportation and personnel necessary for program implementation and ensure the proper scheduling, maintenance and use of all athletic facilities.

  • Operationalize, lead and delegate responsibilities to assure game management, risk management, and supervision for all Los Angeles Harbor College intercollegiate athletic home contests.

  • Monitor the work of all coaches, the athletic department secretary, and Athletic Trainers and ensure ongoing professional learning to staff and faculty by conducting seminars, workshops, in- service meeting/training, and clinics.

  • Advance student well-being and academic success and ensure the department's commitment to maximize the educational potential of all student-athletes; including comprehensive education planning to promote Student-Athlete progress and completion of educational goals and promote the academic achievements of student athletes by maintaining the Scholar-Athlete of the Month and Student-Athlete of the Year awards program.

  • Participate in department and college activities associated with full time faculty employment such as participation in senate and college governance committees.

  • Participate in the development of the class schedule and assignments for Kinesiology Athletics courses; ensure timely submission of Course Outlines of Record.

  • Represent Athletics as an active member and participant in the CCCAA, WSC, SCFA, California Community College Athletic Directors Association.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ACROSS CAMPUS INCLUDING:

  • Administrative Services representatives to ensure fiscal planning and management of an annual $1.4 million budget, adherence to college and district procurement processes and payroll guidelines; identification of preferred vendors for Athletic Department resources; identification of Athletic Facilities maintenance priorities to ensure ongoing operational utility.

  • Student Services representatives to coordinate Student-Athlete enrollment and eligibility verification; coordination of efforts with Financial Aid, Categorical Programs, and Basic Needs officials to maximize Student-Athlete benefits and resources and diminish out-of-pocket expenses; coordination with Counseling Division to promote comprehensive educational planning to reduce time to educational completion; coordination of outreach efforts to enhance Student-Athlete recruitment; implement comprehensive new student onboarding; promote LAHC's Athletic Programs and service high schools.

  • Academic Affairs representatives to develop data-informed scheduling of Kinesiology Athletics courses linked to intercollegiate sports, timely updates to course outline updates; enrollment targets and timelines, informed educational goals and employment readiness among student athletes through Career Exploration activities; implementation of academic support strategies for Student-Athletes to improve success, retention, and completion rates; onboarding of new faculty.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum qualification in one of the instructional disciplines offered at LAHC
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic background, and disabilities of community college students.

Desired Qualifications

  • Two years of professional experience related to college athletics program management.

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and/or learning disabilities.

  • A minimum of three years of leadership experience in an Athletics program at the high school, community college, or four-year college/university level.

  • Evidence of successful teaching, coaching, counseling or athletic director experience in Women's/Men's sports in a community college setting.

  • Professional experience relating to the integration of Kinesiology Athletics toward Student Athlete's academic success and degree attainment.

  • Effective leadership and management skills; strong organizational and communication abilities, as well as problem solving, mediation and conflict resolution skills.

  • A degree from a recognized university in a related field, including but not limited to Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Physiology of Exercise, Recreation Administration, or Sports Administration.

  • Evidence of successful program budgeting and fundraising experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Copies of transcripts from undergraduate and graduate school (Official transcripts are required for all candidates invited to the final interview).

  • All degrees must be granted by an accredited college or university in the United States.

Benefits

The Athletic Director Stipend is allocated at 2,687 annually, per intercollegiate sport offered at the college.
