POSITION DESCRIPTION

Harbor College is accepting applications from qualified individuals for a full-time, tenure track, C-Basis (10 Month) position for a Computer Information Systems Instructor. We are looking for candidates who have the desire and ability to create a welcoming classroom culture that positively engages and impacts our diverse student population.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach courses in the Computer Information Systems discipline including preparing course syllabi, presenting lectures, creating supplemental material (as needed), grading and evaluating students' learning and progress;

  • Teach a schedule that can include nights, evenings, weekends, off campus sites, and online classes based on student demand and needs;

  • Participate in curriculum development and updates, for example program review, as well as development and assessment of student learning outcomes (SLOs);

  • Maintain scheduled office hours for student contact;

  • Participate on department and college committee meetings;

  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge in the discipline;

  • Participate in developing and updating department courses and curricula including hybrid and/or online courses;

  • Develop partnerships with industry and organizations locally, nationally, and internationally that will enhance the department's ability to deliver education;

  • Develop educational and/or informational seminars for students, faculty, staff and the business community;

  • Participate in campus committees and departmental activities, which can include equipment selection, extracurricular programs, advisory committees and student advisement;

  • Commitment to accepting extracurricular responsibilities within the department;

  • Write and manage proposals and grants;

  • Create new programs and ensure current programs are relevant to the job market requirements;

  • Other duties as assigned by the chairperson.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional experience, which must be directly related to the teaching assignment; OR

  • Associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience, which must be directly related to the teaching assignment.

  • Sensitivity to and an understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

All letters verifying your experience must be written on company letterhead, include your start and end dates, duties performed, and whether you worked full or part time. If part time, the percentage of time you worked. The person providing the letter must include their contact information. Letters of recommendation will not be accepted.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience developing mobile apps for Apple or Android devices;

  • Teaching experience at the postsecondary education level in computer information systems, computer programming or information technology;

  • Prior experience with delivery of online curriculum using a learning management system, preferably Canvas;

  • Prior experience in data structures, C++, Python, and other relevant programming languages;

  • Prior industry experience in Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, E-Sports, or Networking;

  • Prior experience in Data Mining, Programming (SQL), Data Warehousing, and Big Data Analytics;

  • Industry certificates such as CEH, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CISM, Network+, or AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Cloud Computing;

  • Experience teaching computer information systems courses such as cloud computing, cyber security, e-sports;

  • Demonstrated experience in equity-minded curriculum and instruction;

  • Prior experience in developing new courses and programs.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Placement on salary schedule is determined by academic preparation and/or employment experience in accordance with the AFT Contract. The salary range is from $72,990 to $135,620 for the ten-month assignment. Applicants with a doctoral degree are eligible for a doctoral differential of $4610 per year. District benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents.
