All of our positions require the below qualifications. Some positions have additional requirements. Please review the job requirements for any roles you apply to as they may be different:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.

  • Must be able to work alone in the store for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, in both verbally and in written form.

  • Must be able to provide proof of authorization to work in the United States if hired.

  • Ability to work varying shifts, including overnight shifts and holidays. Physical abilities necessary:

  • Ability to stand and/or walk for an at least 8 hours.

  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 60 pounds from ground to overhead up to 30 minutes of workday.

  • Ability to occasionally push and pull with arms up to a force of 20 pounds (i.e., utilizing a hand-truck).

  • Ability to occasionally climb a ladder to store or retrieve materials, and/or place or remove signage.

  • Capable of working in small spaces at times.

Through a collaboration with AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA), the Public Defender's Office has an exciting opportunity for volunteer VISTA Members (VISTAs) to help the department bring an end to the revolving door of justice. Join the Public Defender's Office, a department dedicated to promoting justice and protecting Constitutional rights through excellent representation since 1959! The Public Defender (PD) department is looking for 4 VISTAs to help bring their vision to reality. The VISTAs will help to change the current structure of the criminal justice system in San Bernardino County by helping to expand the scale, impact, and resource leveraging ability of the department to implement its new program entitled "Building Communities Through Post-Conviction Relief and Community Engagement." The VISTAs will support the ongoing expansion of the PD post-conviction team's efforts to remove convictions from resident's records that serve as barriers to employment, housing and social services. The VISTAs will help establish regular job, resource and expungement fairs that will not only attract the department's target population, but also other members of the community seeking education, employment and social services. The VISTAs will attend community events and conduct community outreach to cultivate and strengthen relationships with community residents and organizations. The VISTAs will also assist in developing and implementing a new grassroots media campaign to discover, cultivate and strengthen relationships with residents and community based organizations. By making direct contact with these groups, the VISTAs will help to usher in a new dialogue for change that can begin to address specific local needs, which will be focused on creating pathways out of poverty for low-income communities. VISTA duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: * Develop and implement a public relations media plan/campaign to include developing social media tools and outreach plans for target beneficiaries, organizations, potential collaborators. * Assist with conducting community outreach and organizing meetings with community residents and organizations * Cultivate and strengthen relationships with community residents and organizations. * Serve as a liaison between community stakeholders and the department to establish long term sustainable relationships. * Expand existing post-conviction relief efforts to remove criminal convictions from individuals records that prevent employment, promotion, housing or other benefits. * Connect residents to education, employment and social services * Develop a database to track performance measures, success and failure rates,. * Develop a web-based interface/portal for community based organizations and beneficiaries to access and track services being provided by the department and the project. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT VISTA Volunteer Opportunity: The VISTA positions are voluntary, and incumbents do not receive compensation other than what is listed above in the program benefits section. Program Duration: The incumbents hired will be committed to working in the position for 12 months (04/13/20-04/10/2021). Schedule: Incumbents will work a full-time schedule.
