Our girls and boys are taught in single-sex classrooms, but follow a similar curriculum and share in many activities. With a total enrollment of approximately 700 students, the Schools are organized into three academic divisions each led by a division head.

Position Description

The Full-Time Substitute Teacher & Morning Supervisor is directly accountable to the Executive Assistant to the Head of Schools, and works to implement the Goals and Criteria and the philosophy of Sacred Heart education.

Substitute Teaching Responsibilities

The teacher provides substitute teaching coverage for all grades and subjects, senior kindergarten through 8th grade. When possible, they interface with the teacher in advance to become familiar with the lessons to be taught. If there is no specific substitute assignment for a day, they will reach out to division heads and/or other teachers to offer assistance in a specific division or throughout the Schools. They should be comfortable teaching all grades and interfacing with all children ages 5-14. The candidate should be comfortable teaching math for 3rd - 5th grade and some knowledge of algebra at the middle school level is helpful. The candidate should also be willing to learn Science Labs and be able to teach them at the middle school level if needed. They will need to work closely with the division heads regarding school procedures and classroom management. Person must be flexible and adaptable to any situation that arises in regard to teaching or duties assigned during the day, including morning and lunch duties. Any coverage for duties after school will be handled by the teacher. Knowledge of a foreign language would be helpful but is not required. Proficient in the use of technology i.e. document cameras, classroom projectors, laptops, and iPads is preferred.

Morning Arrival Responsibilities

The Morning Supervisor works closely with the Director of Student Activities and the Student Activities Coordinator to ensure adequate coverage with Faculty/Staff and University Student Staff during morning arrival starting at 7:30am for lower and middle school. The person greets and supervises students in the cafeteria as they arrive on campus, ensuring they follow morning procedures as well as works closely with University Student Staff making sure there is adequate coverage of adult/child ratio throughout the campus. The person ensures faculty and staff are present for their duties, follows up if they are absent, sends them reminders, and communicates any changes due to weather. The person is familiar with all Playground/Turf and Gym safety rules. The person also manages the daily dismissal of the middle and lower schools, including monitoring the time and ringing the bells. The person is flexible and adaptable when the gym or play spaces are not available.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Working with School Office Assistant for daily substitute teaching assignments

  • Working with Director of Student Activities regarding morning duties

  • Overseeing University Student Staff for Morning Arrival responsibilities

  • Providing support to School Office

  • Fulfilling other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Assistant to the Head of Schools which are subject to change at any time including to satisfy a reasonable accommodation or for other reasons

Ongoing

  • Attending all in-service days

  • Overseeing morning supervision of SK-8 students

  • Providing support for all division heads and teachers as needed

  • Supporting school emergency preparedness

Qualities and Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • 3 - 5 years of experience in teaching

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic setting

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills

The Chicago High School for the Arts seeks substitute teachers for the 2019-2020 school year. POSITION SUMMARY The Theatre Department seeks substitute instructors for the department who are willing to cover classes M-F between 2pm and 5pm, when called upon. Most sub situations are last minute but at times we may need a long term sub for 1-4 weeks at a time. The candidate should have classroom management, a background in the arts as well as a current practice in the arts, and a college degree. Job responsibilities: * Classroom and professional duties include, but are not limited to the following: * Embrace and promote the ChiArts vision, mission, educational approach, goals, and core values * Prepare structured lessons that encourage and foster skill development, critical thinking, applications, and ethics. * Instruct conservatory level courses, serving students with various learning styles, abilities and needs. * Employ outstanding classroom management skills and implement the school code of conduct. * Regularly assess student achievement, skill mastery and career development skills. * Submit unit plans and lesson plans in Atlas on a timely basis * Manage classroom administration and record keeping including: grades, attendance records, student progress and documentation of student work. * Manage studio material inventory and equipment: ordering and upkeep. * Manage studio setup and breakdown of equipment and furniture. * Document student work for digital portfolio files. * Regularly communicate with students, parents and other ChiArts staff to share artistic progress, encourage positive behavior, and resolve behavioral and artistic issues. * Attend and participate in faculty and administrative meetings, parent conferences, open house, other school functions, and in- service professional development sessions. * Collaborate with the staff to develop "best practices" tailored to the unique philosophy and instructional approach of ChiArts and to the needs of its student population. * Collaborate with other ChiArts artistic and academic faculty and the larger arts community. * Perform other duties as the needs of the school and needs of the students may demand (e.g., competitions, exhibits.) * Work with academic staff to ensure student's overall success at ChiArts.
