Chariton Valley Association is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and flexible individual to perform numerous general office, computer related, and receptionist duties for the position of Front Desk Clerk/Receptionist in a friendly, fast-paced team environment.

Job Summary

The front desk receptionist performs routine clerical, secretarial and administrative work in answering telephones, receiving the public, providing customer assistance, data processing, and record-keeping. Successful applicants will have recent experience working in an office environment and should be proficient in Microsoft Office, and performing various data entry. Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and maintains office forms and assists with administrative tasks.

  • Answers central telephone system and directs calls accordingly.

  • Receives the public and answers questions, in person and by telephone; responds to inquiries from employees, contractors, clients, and the general public and refers, when necessary, to the appropriate person.

  • Operates office machines as required.

  • Prepares outgoing mail; sorts and distributes incoming mail.

  • Duplicates and distributes materials.

  • Composes, types and edits correspondence, reports, memoranda and other material.

  • Assists employees, clients, and the public with the questions and directs individuals to training and meeting rooms.


  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional education and skills are desirable.

  • Valid Drivers License.

  • Be 18yrs of age or older.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer skills, including but not limited to, the following programs: Microsoft Office.

  • At least one year experience working in an office.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

  • Ability to respond positively to constructive criticism.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to maintain professionalism within all aspects of their position.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

Salary: $10.85 /per hour

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a Full-Time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.
