Position Summary
DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and the Director of Facility Services, the maintenance technician - plumber is responsible for performing plumbing, general maintenance and utility tasks of various types to care for and maintain all College buildings and related facilities. The position will need to promptly respond to daily service requests while interacting and communicating with customers and staff in a professional manner.
Typical hours for this position are based on the position posting and vary based on shift. Individual must be willing to work overtime, evenings/weekends, and be available for call-out work and special events. They are also considered part of the weather and emergency staff and may need to respond to emergency issues outside normal times. Serves as part of the on-call rotation.
OUTCOME:
College facilities will be presentable, well maintained and safe for students, staff, faculty and guests.
Essential Functions
Experience and Education Required
High School diploma or equivalent.
Masters or Journeyman's license in PA
A minimum of 5 years' experience in plumbing.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Backflow tester certification or ability or become certified preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in the plumbing trade
Demonstrated knowledge of common hazards and necessary safety precautions
Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to apply, local, state, and national plumbing codes
Ability to analyze plumbing systems and controls to determine problems and initiate repairs as directed by supervisor
Basic Microsoft Office Suite and Gmail.
Must have the ability to follow both verbal and written directions in English; the ability to interact with students, faculty, administration, and staff in a professional and positive manner, as well as the ability to read and understand National Fire Protection Association and OSHA guidelines, such as Material Safety Data Sheets, equipment safety data plates, fuel/chemical flash points, etc.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Must be able to stand, sit, bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach, and climb ladders.
Must be able to work in confined spaces and in elevated spaces (e.g. scaffold, bucket-truck platform, ladders, high-reach lifts).
Ability in electrical and general facilities repairs.
Ability to work with computer systems.
Must be willing to work overtime to accomplish the outcome, if needed.
An ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
Required to report and remain on campus in response to emergencies and weather events even when normal business operations are canceled or suspended.
May be required to work weekends and holidays to support weekend operations or special events.
Maximum lifting of 75 pounds independently. Frequently lifting objects up to 50 pounds, employees must get help if lifting over 75 pounds. Occasionally pulling and pushing up to 75 pounds of force.
Participate in the on-call responsibilities.
Considered weather and emergency personnel.
