Full-time Instructor (Tenure-Track) - Chemistry
Overview:
The Humanities and Sciences Division at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track teaching position in Chemistry. This is a teaching-oriented position rather than a research-oriented position. The successful candidate will teach college-level Chemistry courses to students in our technical and transfer degree programs.
As part of our team of highly qualified faculty, Chemistry Instructors are expected to provide high-quality instruction, work with our faculty and administrative and laboratory staff to improve student-learning experiences, be involved in curriculum development and implementation, and be committed to the mission and values of the College.
General Responsibilities:
Teach both the lecture and laboratory components of a range of Chemistry courses, including Everyday Chemistry; Basic Chemistry; General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry (both one- and two-semester courses); General Chemistry (one-year sequence); and Organic Chemistry (one-year sequence).
Develop, review, and maintain Chemistry Department course curricula.
Support the mission of the College, Division, and Department.
Develop and update as necessary laboratory procedures and classroom demonstrations to be used by full- and part-time faculty in Chemistry.
Provide input and expertise in decisions concerning laboratory safety and purchases and proper use of needed equipment and instrumentation for the Chemistry Department.
Engage in committee work and College-wide service.
Engage in professional development to stay up-to-date on the latest effective teaching practices and procedures.
Be available to teach day or evening classes at any Cincinnati State campus.
Fulfill other responsibilities of tenure-track faculty members.
Support College initiatives as a representative of the Chemistry Department.

Specific Duties:
Deliver effective instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning, student involvement, and student success and by providing timely feedback to students.
Provide each student with a syllabus that outlines student-learning outcomes, clear course expectations, assessments, topical outlines, and timelines.
Prepare all course materials and lessons.
Develop real-life learning activities that align with the learning outcomes defined in the Chemistry Department's standardized syllabi.
Use multiple methods of instruction, including lecture, group work, demonstrations, and more.
Serve as course keeper for multiple Chemistry courses and maintain and provide master syllabi to all instructors of those courses.
Submit student grades, administrative reports, and conduct other required record-keeping in a thorough and timely manner.
Maintain office hours in accordance with the Humanities and Sciences Division's policy.
Attend College, Departmental, and Divisional meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in Chemistry or a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with a Master's degree in a related field, including a cohesive set of at least 18 semester hours of graduate course work in Chemistry from a regionally accredited institution or its equivalent.
A minimum of one year of College-level teaching experience at a regionally accredited institution or its equivalent. Experience as a teaching or research assistant does not meet this qualification.
Experience with or ability to learn and use the College's Learning Management System (i.e. Blackboard or something similar).
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of College-level Chemistry teaching experience (teaching or research assistant experience does not meet this qualification).
Experience teaching in a two-year technical or community college.
Experience in submitting Chemistry courses for statewide transfer approval, such as Ohio Department of Higher Education's Transfer Assurance Guarantee or Ohio Transfer 36 or equivalent.
Desired Competencies:
Ability to communicate effectively with students, both in-person and on-line, and to distribute relevant course material in a timely manner.
Proven success in addressing the needs of students from a broad range of cultures or ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
Demonstrated ability to communicate and engage in a diverse professional and student community.
Commitment to student academic success and the continued improvement of instruction.
Strong organizational skills to develop, maintain, and coordinate multiple courses as well as to manage other faculty priorities.
Ability to use a computer and relevant academic software.
