Hours worked Per Week: 12-credit hour teaching load per semester

POSITION SUMMARY:

Mid-America University seeks a full-time Physics faculty member with in-person and online teaching experience for undergraduate Physics, Pre-Engineering, Computer Science, and Mathematics courses. Attend and participate in departmental meetings and school functions, and serve on college committees as required. A successful applicant will possess a solid commitment to MACU's mission and Christian faith.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach courses on-ground within the School of Science as assigned by the School of Science and Math

• Primary teaching duties in Physics and Pre-Engineering, other courses available considering other

• specialized content areas

• Develop science courses including necessary laboratory components in the areas of the candidate's

• expertise

• Develop and/or follow the department's course syllabi, grading assignment rubrics, attendance records, and maintain/update lab materials as assigned

• Support other full-time faculty with preparations and maintenance of lab supplies

• Respond and effectively communicate with the co-chairs regularly

• Work with the Lab Manager to schedule any missed lab assignments for students with school-sponsored events

• Maintain proficiency in lab procedures for all assigned science labs

• Available to teach courses in the timeslots needed to support the goals of the University

• Other pertinent duties as assigned by the School of Science and Math

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess excellent communication skills both inside and outside the classroom

• Must possess excellent communication skills to work effectively with individuals and groups

• Must be flexible in scheduling, which may include nights

• Prefer experience in various teaching delivery formats

• Prefer teaching experience in Physics, Physical Science, Mathematics, and other related disciplines

• Prefer knowledge in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, and both Algebra and Calculus-based Physics

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Master in Physics or closely related field required; Doctorate preferred

• Experience in academic outreach/recruitment

• Demonstrate effective teaching skills to a diverse student population

• Successful mentoring and advising incoming freshmen through postgraduates seeking entry into graduate schools

COMPUTER SKILLS:

• Experience with coding/programming software to include but not limited to: Python, R, and MATLAB

• Experience with interactive computer programs

• Preference is given to a candidate with experience in Artificial Intelligence in a Higher Education setting

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds (11.34 kilograms)
• Ability to stand for long periods at one station
