PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilizing the framework provided by the Philosophy, Program
    Outcomes and Curriculum Plan of the Practical Nursing Program.

  • Provides clinical supervision to no more than ten (10) practical nursing students in agencies that will provide clinical practice to complement classroom and/or laboratory learning.

  • Prepare, implement and review course syllabi and teaching materials in accordance with the curriculum framework and Student Learning Outcomes of the program with PN Program Director approval.

  • Organize, plan, implement, and evaluate assigned nursing courses in cooperation with the other nursing faculty.

  • Assist with the development of policies and procedures for the Practical Nursing Program student and faculty handbooks.

  • Evaluates periodically student progress according to evaluation strategies for clinical and/or classroom and/or laboratory experience.

  • Maintains accurate and current records of student progress in assigned areas of clinical or classroom teaching.

  • Provides advising to students regarding academic and/or clinical progress; provides remediation as needed.

  • Communicates student progress on a regular basis to PN Program Director.

  • Monitors student adherence to program policies. Coordinate student behavior problems with PN Program Director following handbook policy.

  • Completes faculty orientation program for PN Program and clinical agencies as assigned. Assist with orientation and mentoring of new program faculty.

  • Adheres to clinical agency policies and/or affiliation agreements regarding student and faculty practice. Hold periodic meetings with representatives of each cooperating agency to evaluate the experience. Such meetings shall be held at least once per year.

  • Observes relevant faculty policies of the Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School District.

  • Continue to improve expertise in nursing and teaching through any one or combination of the following: academic study, clinical practice, certifications and other appropriate learning activities.

  • Assist in Systematic Evaluation Plan for continuing accreditation and Massachusetts Board of Nursing approval.

  • Participates once per month during the program year, on the Nursing Faculty Committee during which:
    a.Systematic Program Evaluation will be discussed including program policies, outcomes, curriculum, budget, and resources.
    b.Student progress may be reviewed.
    c.Activities relevant to program maintenance and revision will be conducted.

  • Participates in governance activities.

  • Maintain expertise in program technology and software programs.

  • Establish collaborative relationship with other school staff and health care agencies.

  • Assist in the preparation of the budget. Participate in program spending and purchases. Research new teaching tools, provide rationale and cost consideration of all products, books, and services.

  • Accepts program responsibilities consistent with preparation and work hours as assigned PN Program Director or Superintendent-Director.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires long periods of sitting and standing. The individual may be exposed to ultraviolet light as found with computer monitors and copying equipment. The individual may be exposed to various hazards in the building and the clinical setting.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full Year, Full Time Faculty

Evaluation:
In accordance with the School Committee PolicyQUALIFICATIONS:
1.Baccalaureate Degree with a major in Nursing from an accredited college or university; Master's degree with a major in Nursing preferred.
2.A minimum of two (2) years of full-time employment in Nursing (or its equivalent), within the past five (5) years.
3.Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Registered Nurse.
4.Evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical and theoretical instruction for which employed.
5.Recent formal teaching experience, preferably in Nursing education with adult students.
6.Certified or certifiable under Ch. 74, H40.
7.American Heart Association CPR certified.
8.Meets health standards of clinical agencies to which assigned (immunizations, etc.)
9.Current professional Malpractice Insurance.

Director, Practical Nursing Program

JOB GOAL:
Provision of quality instruction in nursing (clinical and/or classroom, including the practice laboratory/simulation) that fosters student attainment of the Program Outcomes for the Practical Nursing Program.
