Position Summary:

This position is a full-time faculty position. In addition to faculty responsibilities, this position's primary role is to serve as the appointed Academic Program Director (APD) for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Licensure programs within the Nursing Department.

As the BSN APD, this role provides leadership and assumes responsibility for the administration and development of the BSN licensure programs as required by licensing and accrediting agencies, as well as in compliance with the policies and procedures of National University. The APD will be responsible for the development and assessment of the programs' curriculum. This role includes supervising nursing staff within the BSN licensure programs. The APD will be given sufficient course release time for the administration of the programs.

As a full-time faculty member, this position delivers an exceptional student experience through teaching, scholarship, and service in support of the overall academic quality of departmental programs. As a champion of student success, this faculty member innovates and collaborates within the University to deliver outstanding course content and academic programs to the diverse student population at National University. Nursing faculty contribute to the curriculum design and the operation of the department of nursing.

Essential Functions:

Academic Program Director, BSN Licensure Programs:

  • Responsible for the continued, successful accreditation/approval of the BSN licensure programs through leadership and management.

  • Plan, organize and administer the processes and operations of the BSN licensure programs.

  • Responsible for maintaining NCLEX pass rates as established by California Board of Registered Nursing (CA-BRN) and Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

  • Ensure student, faculty, clinical site, and alumni surveys are analyzed for curricular opportunities per accreditation standards.

  • Develop curriculum according to National University processes with input from faculty.

  • Working with the Department Chair, develop the budget for the BSN licensure programs.

  • Working with the Associate Dean of Faculty and in collaboration with Department Chair, is responsible for hiring faculty for all three campuses.

  • Compute faculty load in collaboration with the Department Chair and Associate Dean of Faculty.

  • Work with Campus Operations and Staffing to plan, schedule, and ensure adequate staff for courses.

  • Ensure all university required processes are completed within designated timeframes (i.e., PARs, self-evaluations).

  • Responsible for annual program assessment and comprehensive program reviews; gather and analyze data including student outcome, enrollment in collaboration of the SOHP Director of Assessment and Accreditation for WASCUS, CA BRN and CCNE accreditations to support continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with the faculty to maintain and update the Master Evaluation Plan (MEP) bi-yearly for ongoing programmatic assessment. Provide documentation of the updated MEP to the SOHP Director of Assessment and Accreditation and the Department Chair.

  • Responsible for the coordination and monthly reporting to the Nursing Chair to include program updates and decisions made by nursing committee meetings for the BSN programs. Committees include Curriculum, Student Affairs and Faculty Affairs.

  • Communicate changes in state and federal regulations to appropriate persons.

  • Is part of the grievance process if student issues escalate, maintaining the grievance policy timeline.

  • Participate in all three campus pinning ceremonies and support community events in which BSN students are present.

  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with clinical partners and make routine clinical site visits.

  • Network with community, business, and industry partners to build a strong advisory board that meets annually to gather feedback from stakeholders to maintain currency with industry trends.

  • Collaborate with professional organizations in order to understand changes in the field and explore future trends.

Teaching:

  • Provide exceptional student experience, from initial contact to degree completion and engagement for nursing students.

  • Preparation of curricula and development and implementation of courses, student advising and feedback.

Submit a class outline and booklist by specified dates and adhering to the syllabi.

  • Comply with published grading criteria, procedures, and deadlines.

  • Assign quality coursework and examinations in alignment with course outline in a timely manner.

  • Maintain office hours online or onsite to champion student success within the three campuses.

  • Respond to student contact within 24-48 business hours.

  • Provide on-going content preparation and development of delivery modalities for adult learners.

  • Recommend suitable instructional material, textbooks, and library acquisitions.

  • Maintain innovative curriculum that reflects current subject matter, technological literacy, and current methodology in field.

  • Teach courses and/or clinicals as assigned by Department Chair per policy.

  • Support flexible and convenient courses and programs for lifelong learners.

Expected instruction utilizing teaching through engagement incorporates specific performance guidelines which include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide consistent, timely, quality, substantive, constructive feedback to students.

  • Reflect a content focus.

  • Focus on helping the student improve knowledge and skill development.

  • Provide assessment of student work.

  • Encourage student engagement with peers, the instructor, and the learning resources.

  • Be multimodal.

  • Course shell preparation in advance (welcome letters, videos, announcements, AI, adding supplemental content, communicate days and times of live session meetings, etc.).

  • Adhere to university policies and procedures.

  • Return student work in a timely manner. Remember that in most courses, students are submitting work frequently, and a prompt reply to student questions helps students stay current in their course work.

  • Interact with students consistently (discussion boards, live online sessions, email, and texts)

  • Complete applicable assignment and learning outcome rubrics.

  • Appropriate documentation of student issues and intervention (preserve emails threads, notes in feedback, complete forms when required).

  • Timely notify students of any changes in course schedules, additional materials, or live class sessions dates and times.

  • Communicate with students using University-designated systems and through university-assigned email accounts.

  • Re-engage a student who is not actively participating in the course.

Scholarship:

  • National University recognizes the importance of faculty research and scholarship in maintaining currency in the discipline.

  • The department faculty will develop the research and scholarship criteria in consultation with their Department Chair / Associate Dean.

  • Faculty will describe their plans for research and scholarly activities in their Faculty Annual Plan (FAP) and report progress in their Annual Review (AR).

Service:

  • Provide service primarily to the nursing department with some service at college, University, or system level. Examples of service include but are not limited to:

  • Pursue and accomplish activities in service to NUS, NU, college, region, Dept or program.

  • Participation in recruitment, selection and mentoring of faculty.

  • Program service such as participating in department, SOHP and University meetings, writing reports, etc.

  • Development in professional growth programs for faculty.

  • Organization of seminars, panels, or colloquia.

  • Participation in shared governance in University, Colleges, departments, academic programs.

  • Professional activities in local, national, or global community, outside of the University.

  • Embrace differences in race, gender, age, ability, and geography into our academic fabric and appreciate those differences as drivers of change.

  • Participate in commencement exercises and other important University events.

  • Provide Faculty Annual Plan (FAP) annually to the Chair.

  • Participate in faculty governance and perform administrative responsibilities as assigned.

  • Complete all training as assigned (faculty development, required compliance trainings, etc.).

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • An unencumbered nursing license in the State of California is required.

  • Terminal degree (DNP, Ph.D., EdD) in nursing or in a discipline that is recognized within the field as related, required.

  • A minimum of five years of full-time faculty experience in higher education is required.

  • Evidence of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service required.

  • At least 1 year of direct patient care experience as a Registered Nurse or at least 1 academic year teaching in a clinical area in the last 5 years required.

  • Knowledge of Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) standards required.

  • Leadership and/or project management in a higher education setting required.

  • At least 1 year experience as a CA-BRN approved Assistant Program Director or Program Director preferred.

  • CNE (Certified Nurse Educator) from National League for Nursing (NLN) preferred.

  • Working knowledge, principles, and practices of office management/systems within a higher education environment, preferred.

Location: Stationed at Rancho Bernardo Campus in San Diego.

Travel: Some travel to Fresno & Los Angeles campuses required.

Compensation Range:

Annual Salary: $77,700.00 - $126,493.00

Candidate receiving offers will be offered a salary/pay rate commensurate with experience that vary based on a candidate's qualifications, skills, and competencies.
