Full-Time Engineering Instructor (9-Month Position)

General Description of the Position:

The Engineering instructor, under the direct supervision of the Program Coordinator and Dean of Engineering and Trades and the authority of the Vice President for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer, is responsible for instructing in the college's Mechatronics Engineering Technology program. Instructors will use current lab equipment, relevant laboratory exercises, and classroom lectures to develop the student's knowledge and skills. We expect all employees to find ways to remove barriers to student success and provide all students a pathway to achievable dreams. Our employees are charged to recognize the challenges we face and to respond to them with empathy, understanding, and a willingness to help.Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

• Teach using a variety of instructional techniques to assist students in developing needed skills.

• Teaches students effectively to meet student learning outcomes.

• Teach credit or non-credit courses in the teaching discipline as needed.

• Holds class sessions as scheduled to meet student learning outcomes.

• Maintains office hours as required by college policy.

• Makes course syllabi and Instructor Course Requirements available to students no later than the first class session or the first date of the course session for Distance Learning courses. Rubrics used to evaluate specific assignments should also be made available to students.

• Provides clearly organized and understandable instruction.

• Provides adequate and timely feedback and evaluation of assignments.

• Maintains a positive attitude in interactions with students and shows a genuine concern for student learning.

• Fulfills obligations in student recruiting, advising, orientation, and registration.

• Assists in the continual evaluation and enhancement of curricula through the planning process and departmental meetings.

• Provides the Vice President for Instruction or his/her designee with updated Instructor's Course Requirements that reflect expected student learning outcomes.

• Submits accurate and complete records and reports in a timely manner in order to provide assessment data for institutional improvement.

• Attends and participates in faculty, advisory, and assigned committee meetings designated to improve curriculum programs.

• Participates in professional development, including back-to-industry, conference, and workshop activities that lead to professional and institutional advancement.

• Ensure maintenance and safe operation of all equipment and areas.

• Accept other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to teach courses in the Mechatronics Engineering Technology program. Understanding of the unique nature and role of the institution, with reference to the mission and the open-door policy. The ability to problem-solve and work directly with a diverse population of adult learners. Effective written and public speaking skills are required. Ability to work independently, in a fast-paced environment and be accountable for assignments. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to listen and work effectively with people from all social-economic/education levels and ethnic groups.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with three years of college level teaching experience and/or industry experience in an engineering field. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, and online/hybrid instruction. Ability to teach the following courses:

• Mechanical components/mechanisms

• Hydraulics and pneumatics

• Motors and Motor Control

• Manufacturing quality control

• Industrial safety

• CAD/CAM

• Industrial equipment troubleshooting

Ability to provide support in the following areas:

• Basic AC/DC Circuit Analysis

• Industrial Electronics

• Process control & Instrumentation
