Software Engineer 4 employees produce and maintain department applications to accomplish business needs. They perform engineering and development work on moderate- to large-scale or complex projects. They perform advanced software analysis, design, and implementation. They are distinguished from Software Engineer 3 employees by their fully-developed, regularly applied, advanced technical skills; highly complex, long-term and strategically significant activities; and significant latitude to devise the approach and method to performing assignments. Their assignments are typically multi-faceted and may be cross-discipline, requiring significant coordination and planning. They work under general supervision, seeking assistance when significant deviations are proposed, or when unprecedented problems arise. They develop approaches to problem-solving and anticipate/mitigate potential issues. They train, serve as a resource, and provide guidance to Software Engineer 1, 2, and 3 employees on complex problems, processes, and policies. They have input into hiring decisions and staff performance assessments but do not supervise others. Their interactions are with fellow team members, coordinating team members, assigned student, faculty, and/or staff clients. They work with and may manage external vendors and service providers. They often interact with external customers and may influence others. They regularly work toward specific team goals and client goals and assist in establishing department processes and standards.
This is a restricted position based on funding the funding will run from 3-1-24 until 3-1-29. This role will not sponsor VISA applicants.
Contribute to front-end and back-end development processes
Develop and maintain web services and interfaces
Build new features and or APIs
Perform tests, troubleshoot software, and fix bugs
Design, understand, and manipulate database queries and web storage
Collaborate with other departments on projects and sprints
Knowledge of various back-end programming
UX: Maintainability: Efficient code design, appropriate use of libraries, coding best practices
Usability, Interaction Design, & Information Architecture heuristics & best practices
Version control
Test and document modifications and write clear operational instructions
In collaboration with management, engineer(s) & developers, determine the overall technical approach to assigned projects and design algorithms and interfaces
Devise or modify procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results
Conduct quality assurance reviews
Analyze performance of programs and take action to correct deficiencies based on consultation with users
Assist with training of front and back-end developers
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related discipline Experience: At least five years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Licensure: None PHYSICAL DEMANDS This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
