Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in our Fuel Development, Performance and Qualification Department department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located in Idaho Falls with every other Friday off.
The chosen candidate(s) will work with the principal investigators within INL and across the nation to support the High-Performance Research Reactors Fuel Qualification (HPRR-FQ) project and other advanced fuel projects to support INL's missions and goals in the area of nuclear fuel development.
The postdoctoral researchers will work with world experts in Post Irradiation Examination (PIE) and Material Properties (MP) to support fuel qualification experiments irradiated at the INL's Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) and TREAT Reactors, and the Belgium Reactor 2 (BR2).
This unique opportunity will provide the successful candidate(s) with the opportunity to work in national/international leading PIE facilities and participate in the latest PIE activities supporting the testing and qualification of a new fuel systems. You will gain invaluable experience in PIE/MP and numerous opportunities to publish/present papers in refereed journals and international conferences.
PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or closely related fields completed within the past five years.
Background in nuclear fuels research, with expertise in material properties/fuel. .performance or methods supporting characterization of materials in the nuclear fuel cycle.
Experience with experimental techniques and instrumentation relevant to nuclear fuels/material properties research.
Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation using computational tools and software such as thermochemical simulation software, MATLAB, ImageJ.
Work collaboratively in a team environment.
