Under the direction of the FSQ Director, the FSQ Manager is responsible for managing the food safety and quality risks at Fresh processing facilities (e.g. SY, Freshway, Save On Seafood and Outsourced Partners). The FSQ Manager will partner with cross-functional teams at the sites and through the Fresh Operations leadership to define product specifications, evaluate suppliers and the manufacturing of Exclusive Brands (EB) branded product within facilities. The FSQ Manager will work proactively with the Outsourced Partners and Operations teams to build process controls to reduce/eliminate food safety and quality risks to deliver with excellence. This position serves as the SME in drafting, reviewing and communicating regulatory responses to FDA and USDA inspection teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures compliance of all assigned Fresh US Foods processing facilities and Outsourced Partners to US Foods requirements regarding food safety, quality and regulatory compliance, approving/suspending/restricting/disqualifying as required. This requires teaming up with the cross functional management team to hold sites accountable to US Foods requirements.
Performs internal audits at the Facilities, minimum twice per year.
Technical expert for assigned product categories in the following areas: regulatory performance standards, critical to quality attributes, sanitation, applicable state laws, processing techniques, environmental monitoring and general microbiology.
Must be technical expert for specific regulatory programs related to assigned product category (FSIS, Low Acid Canned Food Processing, Pasteurized Milk Ordinance, etc.)
Conducts vendor facility risk assessments (documentation and on-site) for site approvals of suppliers and Outsourced Partners.
Good business partner. Guides the cross-function team to commercial success through maintenance of food safety standards and food regulatory compliance requirements while balancing innovation and commercialization needs.
Analyze KPI's such as complaint and product evaluation data to identify trends and opportunities with products and manufacturing locations to drive continuous improvement. Compile and issue monthly FSQ scorecard to cross functional teams.
Drives Exclusive Brand (EB) product innovation through teaming up with Sales, Operations and Product Development to define product specifications and plays a key role in the product review process, ensuring product conformity to defined specifications and managing the internal and supplier approval process. These activities will have focus on supporting Exclusive Brand growth.
Attends plant trials and/or first production, as appropriate, of new products to provide plant guidance on food safety and quality.
Collaborates with all manufacturing sites and existing Outsourced Partners within the category to maintain product specifications for branded products to ensure consistent adherence to food safety and quality requirements.
Actively manages supplier, customer and internal feedback to move US Foods to a proactive/predictive state in managing product quality and driving continuous improvement.
Support certification and surveillance GFSI audits, facilitate the implementation of corrective actions and maintain communication with GFSI certification body inquires for all responsible sites.
Responsible to support approximately 3-5 production facilities, 30-40 vendor facilities depending on the category supported. (15-30 vendors)
Provides Food Safety and Quality subject matter expertise to partners with internal cross-functional teams (category management, Product Development, sales, etc.).
Educates cross functional team on Food Safety/Quality regulations and policies.
3-5 Direct Reports each with FSQ Facility Teams (Managers plus Technicians and/or Sanitation staff)
B.Sc. in applicable field of science for the role (e.g meat science, animal science, food science, engineering) or commensurate experience
HACCP & Seafood certified
Auditor certification strongly preferred
Minimum 5 years' experience in FSQ management in Fresh processing including seafood, meat, produce or slaughter
Demonstrated knowledge with regulatory requirements and food safety systems for fresh products
Strong leader and mentor
Strong and consistent communication with Facility Managers to develop solid relationships
Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize; required
Deep understanding of environmental monitoring programs
Deep knowledge/understanding and application of FSMA/Preventive Controls, Food Safety Plan design, measurement, documentation and training; required.
Strong interpersonal skills required, including the ability to relate and positively influence at all organizational levels
Up to 25% walking in a cold environment

The following information is provided in accordance with the Colorado Pay Equity Act. Compensation depends on experience, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law. In Colorado, the expected compensation for this role is between $85,200 and $100,000. This role is also eligible for annual incentive plan bonus.
