External Job Description

Position Specifics: Candidate must have the following to qualify for this position.

  • Must have experience with LPD class Cargo/Weapons Elevators, Stern Gates, Boat and Cargo Crane maintenance.

  • Must have experience with level 3 testing of elevators.

  • Must have WAF and tag-out experience.

  • Must be able to travel up to 75% of the time

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Confidential security clearance.

The selected candidate will be supporting our Carrier Division assisting with upgrading, repairing and maintaining elevator systems aboard Navy ships. Selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around the country and potentially abroad when not assigned to a local task. Per diem available based on location when on travel, travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company.

Installs, operates, maintains, repairs and modifies equipment. Performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.

Analyzes and evaluates products and related performance. Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions to eliminate problem in minimum time. Installs, upgrades and removes products ensuring coordinative engineering field change.

Maintains effective customer communications and relations. May provide onsite training of customer support personnel. Applies understanding of production and processes to assignments.

Performs a variety of complicated tasks. May assist in the development and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports. Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs.

Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods.

May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.

Basic Qualifications

HS education or Trade School + 2 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training experience is a plus.

The selected candidate will be supporting our Marine Services Division working/leading on the deck plates preforming shipboard welding processes in accordance with MIL-STD-248, 1688 and 1689 to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization on various contracts such as Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Space & Naval Warfare Systems Command and Naval Surface Warfare Center. Selected candidate will be required to travel to shipyards and military bases located around the country when not assigned to a local tasking. Per diem available based on location when on travel, travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company. There is potential to work up to 20 hours overtime a week. Position Specifics: Candidates must have the following to qualify for this position. * Must have six (6) years' experience in the welding trade with a minimum of four (4) years' welding experience in alteration and installation onboard marine vessels. * Must have experience with the following welding processes; SMAW, GMAW and/or GTAW. * Must be able to read and interrupt marine blueprints for installation material types, weld symbols and size requirements. * Must have current or prior welding qualification certificates applicable with MIL-STD-248. If qualifications completed within VSRA contractor, qualification may be transferred and no further qualification testing may be needed. * Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance and base access/credentials. * Must be able to travel 50% of the time. * Candidate must be able to demonstrate welding ability on multiple processes through qualification testing and pass with a satisfactory grade from our Quality Assurance Team within 30 days of hire for continued employment. Master understanding of production and processes. Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and ability to provide work direction to others.
