Mercer Investments LLC is seeking candidates for the following position based in the Boston, MA office (Remote work may be permitted within a commutable distance from the work site):

FSG Consultant (Sr. Investment Consultant I)

We will count on you to:

Act as consultant to various clients (primarily sponsors of pension plans) focusing on the analysis and execution of pension risk management strategies. Focus on performing calculations and statistical analyses for clients, which primarily includes the assessment of pension risk transfer actions (i.e. retiree annuity buyouts, lump sum windows, or full plan terminations). Apply general understanding regarding the implications that various actuarial assumptions (demographic and economic) and investment strategies have on the pension risk management opportunities.

Participate in client meetings, conducting presentations and explaining the results of an analysis conducted to clients. Serve as the point of contact for clients performing project management responsibilities, managing project timelines, and monitoring timelines and budgets. Work with multiple actuarial and investment teams, primarily through virtual environments.

Participate in the development of new business by responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and develop proposals and presentations. Mentor and provide guidance to analysts and more junior consultants to help them develop their skill set.

What you need to have:

Must have an Associate's degree or foreign equivalent in Mathematics, Finance, or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in the position offered or a related position. Must have three (3) years of experience with all of the following: Conducting calculations pertaining to pension de-risking projects, including retiree annuity buyouts and plan terminations; Preparing requests for proposal from insurers on behalf of plan sponsors and fiduciaries and reviewing proposals submitted by insurers pertaining to pension risk transfer projects; Reviewing large data files for reasonableness and consistence as it relates to a pension risk transfer opportunity and reconciling multiple versions of the data files throughout a project; Applying pricing assumptions such as mortality and discount rates used for pricing annuity buyout transactions, as well as other drivers of annuity market prices; Performing actuarial calculations, determining annuity factors, and estimating impact of annuity buyout on multiple bases, including accounting and economic; Assessing the impact of mortality experience studies or that an asset in-kind transfer may have on annuity purchase transactions; Developing detailed project plans for pension risk transfer opportunities and organizing and engaging with various parties to maintain project timeline; Maintaining partnerships with clients and major insurance companies; Staying abreast of rules and legislation that affect actuarial calculations pertaining to annuity buyout transactions; Facilitating discussions with key stakeholders including plan sponsor, legal, HR, benefits administration, and insurers on various aspects of a risk transfer project (i.e. annuity buyouts and plan terminations); and Supporting the development of new pension risk transfer business, including determining the scope of projects, preparing proposals, and considering potential budgets for the projects.
