Front-end Web Developer - Mid-level

Job Summary

The Application Developer builds, maintains and configures applications to ensure business needs are met. Most will specialize in a specific application domain such as web, mobile, client-server or mainframe development, focused on supporting specific business capabilities. Application Developers will have in-depth knowledge of at least one programming language. The person in this role would also:

  • Enhance Alliance Data Retail's Digital (Web, mobile) offerings

  • Actively participate in a fun and fast paced Agile environment

  • Collaborate with design and development teams to develop code that is functional, maintainable, and in compliance with defined coding standards

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to drive the organization forward

  • Support and mentor less experienced team members

  • Learn new technologies and stay informed of industry trends

  • Effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks

  • Understand the use of technology and how its implementation affects strategic business goals

Essential Job Functions

  • Utilize the software development lifecycle to implement technology solutions that create and enhance applications.

  • Inspect, analyze, and translate functional and non-functional requirements into technical design, application code, and configuration parameters.

  • Produce design specifications, including screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, and printed outputs developed for self and others.

  • Convert technical design and specifications into functioning components through the development of application code and configuration.

  • Create and execute unit tests to ensure issues are proactively identified within the software development lifecycle.

  • Analyze code to identify causes of errors and defects. Remediate known errors within development and production support contexts.

  • Review application code for self and others. Define, support, and enforce code standards and guidelines relevant to the applications and technologies being supported.

  • Estimate and size work based upon high-level requirements.

  • Continuously improve applications and processes with a focus on quality, efficiency, and user experience.

  • Cultivate relationships across roles and organizations to maximize collaboration, partnership, and efficiency.

  • Provide peer coaching and feedback formally and informally. Request and utilize feedback to foster personal development.


Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience

Work Experience
3 to 5 years

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 3-5 years of professional work experience with JavaScript, CSS, and HTML

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with client-side JavaScript libraries and frameworks (e.g. AngularJS, Angular 2, Java, Bootstrap, React, Vue, jQuery)

  • Basic understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3 and XHTML

  • Basic understanding of CSS pre-processing platforms (e.g. Sass, LESS)

  • Basic understanding of versioning control systems (e.g. Git, Subversion)

  • Basic understanding of JavaScript unit testing frameworks (e.g. Jasmine, Mocha)

  • Familiarity with web application security issues and security by design principles

  • Knowledge on developing accessibility compliant web sites (WCAG 2.0 AA)

  • Experience with Web Content Management Systems (e.g. Tridion)

  • Experience with Atlassian products such as JIRA and Confluence

  • Able to work in a fast paced, client focused environment, maintain effective communication with internal customers.

  • Candidate should be team oriented and a highly motivated self-starter, able to think and operate independently.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Must have aptitude for detail and accuracy.

  • Must be a loyal team player with excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Works well under stress.
