Purpose of Job

We are currently seeking talented Front-End Engineers - Mid Level for our San Antonio, TX facility.

USAA Front End Engineers create and maintain the front-end portion of our business software applications. Done well, many may never realize or appreciate how critical these systems are or how we've made them simpler, faster, and safer. Yet, they help make our members' lives better. It's a great challenge and responsibility.

Here, you will invent. You'll design and test. You'll take risks. You'll create new technology, but the impact you'll make on our members will be far more significant.

As a Front-end Engineer, you are expected to be able to function in a fast-paced environment driving innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development ensuring quality is built into all solutions. Your responsibilities will require you to be familiar in front end development best practices and frameworks, creating beautiful experiences for our internal and member facing systems. You will be required to be knowledgeable in understanding user requirements and tailoring user experiences accordingly. You will engage with business clients, UI designers, developers and architects to create high performing and easy to use systems via the web as well as mobile-based applications. You will create and implement design principles that ensures that our content renders well across multiple devices. You will use and promote the use of front-end and mobile testing tools to ensure quality.

As a Front-end Engineer, it will be your responsibility to maintain code integrity and quality.

USAA Information Technology: A Realistic Preview

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from business activities and the job role.

  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.

  • Follows written risk and compliance policies and procedures for business activities.

  • Design, develop, code, and test technical solutions collaborating with senior engineers.

  • Participate in code/design reviews to ensure smooth daily operations and accurate planning.

  • May begin to help organize work to deliver features and solutions.

  • Resolves simple production issues with some assistance through troubleshooting applications independently.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required OR Certification from an approved technical field of study, OR 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • AND, 4+ years of software development experience in JavaScript, CSS and HTML with experience with JavaScript Frameworks such as React or Angular

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working with Agile methodology

  • Experience in translating front-end mockups and wireframes into functioning applications

  • 2+ years of experience in designing/coding for high availability and performance.

  • 2+ years of experience with rapid prototyping / simulations / iterative design

  • Experience supporting accessibility requirements from ADA (Section 508 subset of a11y).

  • 4+ years of experience on closures/Prototypes/JS.this and variable scope

  • Understanding of HTTP interaction with browsers (request types, request headers, synchronous/asynchronous requests).

  • Understanding of page rendering orchestration within a browser

  • Experience at using browser development tools within each major browser

  • Delivering software using a container based infrastructure

  • Familiar with Gradle, GIT, GitHUB, GITLab, etc. around continuous integration and continuous delivery infrastructure

  • Experience testing in Selenium frameworks

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: * Work in a manner to protect the health and safety of Stantec employees, clients and the public by following company health, safety and security guidelines and policies. * Communicate and apply with a high level of understanding the principles and practices of coastal engineering, coastal hydrodynamics, wave theory, and sediment transport mechanics. * Complete complex engineering calculations and modeling for the design or analysis of projects located in coastal environments, such as large coastal storm risk management (levees and floodwalls) and ecosystem restoration projects. * Provide engineering leadership at a project level task and working with other engineering staff to complete projects. * Complete tasks assigned by a Senior Coastal Engineer and works with junior engineers to complete engineering studies and design projects. * Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the coastal engineering work in marine related projects. * Prepare cost and project estimates, job budgets and schedules. * Coordinate work with other coastal engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline, and with support services staff. * Maintain and enhance our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider. * Remaining current on regulatory policy and rule changes. * Maintain consistently high standards of delivery, quality, flexibility, and innovation. * Enhance the reputation of Stantec through preparation and presentation of papers at professional society conferences and seminars. * Coordinate with Stantec leadership and client contacts routinely to explore future opportunities, budget planning, and staff resourcing needs. * Other duties or responsibilities as assigned. Your Capabilities and Credentials * Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to conduct effective client and agency presentations and written technical report preparation, as well as effective skills working in diverse team environments with staff, clients, and stakeholders. * Fieldwork, such as reconnaissance, measurements, construction inspection, or instrument handling and deployment. * Completing design calculations for coastal and civil engineering practice: including marine structures, rubble mound structures, geotechnical/foundation designs, hydrodynamics/fluid mechanics, drainage and flood control infrastructure, dredge/fill, and sediment disposal site designs. * Coastal engineering analysis in support of coastal flood hazard studies under a predefined framework, specifically wave runup/overtopping analysis, and wave overland propagation analysis. * Preparation of design plans and specifications for bidding and construction purposes. * Construction oversight and administration duties including shop drawing approval, review of contractor surveys/progress reports, and execution of final certification(s) upon project completion. * Application of numerical modeling tools for simulating circulation, waves, water quality, sediment transport, or mixing (e.g. ADCIRC, Delft3D, SWAN, Mike, CORMIX). * Computer programming (matlab, python or similar) and navigating Linux environment. * Drafting and/or geospatial design (GIS, AutoCAD, Microstation, SMS). * Skill in Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Project). Education and Experience Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Coastal, or Environmental Engineering with 4-10 years of experience in one of the areas of expertise listed above; Master of Science Degree preferred. Current registration as Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred with ability to obtain reciprocity in multiple states, or ability to obtain PE license within 6 months.
