To manage and ensure efficient operations of the Fresh Grocery Departments; customer service, merchandising, and cleanliness. The Fresh Replenishment Buyer is responsible for maintaining a positive environment that encourages a Jackson Whole Grocer team culture, while ensuring company standards and department financial objectives are met. To select, order and merchandise products of the highest quality within purchasing guidelines.


  • Purchasing & Merchandising:

  • Track consumer trends and purchasing patterns to ensure the proper balance of well-stocked and profitable departments.

  • Identify, order and maintain the proper product mix to meet consumer demands and achieve sales and margin goals.

  • Receive orders following established procedures. Review invoices for accuracy and promotional discounts according to procedures.

  • Assemble department to department transfers as needed. Process store to store transfers weekly.

  • Ensure shrink is properly recorded in all departments, assemble totals for management.

  • Get credit from suppliers, where applicable, for returned or low-quality product.

  • See that unsellable items are recorded and properly disposed of.

  • Assist in ensuring the monthly sales and promotional calendar is supported at all levels of the store to include signage, marketing materials, demos, social media and events. Implement sales and pricing strategy developed by Support Office. Assist in cross merchandising with other departments.

  • Ensure that the department is fully stocked to give appearance of abundance, products are labeled accurately, and of highest quality in order to attract customer purchases. This includes facing, rotating and culling. Set stocking priorities for department staff.

  • Ensure all staff is aware of product literature, price changes, specials and any events.&8232;

  • Encourage and recognize all staff in their role and mentor the individuals who show a strong interest and drive to grow within the company. Delegate responsibilities and monitor progress on various tasks.

  • Give feedback to and mentor all staff on productivity and customer service. Communicate any concerns to management.

  • Ensure interactions with customers are always governed by honesty, integrity and the highest standard of ethical conduct.

  • Customer Service:

  • Make sure that all customers are treated in a friendly manner, made to feel comfortable and are always satisfied with their shopping experience.

  • Proactively greet all customers as they enter the department in a prompt, friendly, and courteous manner.

  • Assist Grocery manager in meeting objectives for Fresh Grocery sales, margin, turns and ensure regular department inventories and stock rotation.

  • Operations:

  • Uphold security procedures and support staff in dealing with shoplifters, disorderly customers, and emergencies. Coordinate and direct daily communication between morning and evening crews.

  • Assist in ensuring store facility is properly maintained. Troubleshoot and report faulty equipment or other facility issues to store management.

  • Assist in directing and maintaining non-dairy and fresh grocery displays, storage areas in clean, orderly condition, and all aspects of sales floor operations.


  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Excellent communication and listening skills

  • Demonstrated leadership skills initiative, delegating, motivating, problem solving

  • Retail experience

  • Ability to handle multiple demands in a calm and effective manner

  • Organizational skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions using good judgment

  • Must be 18 years or older

  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English

  • Willingness to work with sanitizers and cleaner

  • Physical Demands

  • Standing/Walking: Constantly throughout work shift on hard floor surface and asphalt.

  • Sitting: Occasionally for breaks and lunch.

  • Lifting: Occasionally lifting 50 floor to waist; frequently lift 30 from floor to 6'. Constantly lifting 25 floor to 6'.

  • Carry: Occasionally carrying bags of groceries and/or 50 dog food bags for up to 30'.

  • Push/Pull: Frequently pushing and pulling grocery carts from store to customer vehicles, and pushing/pulling a dozen empty grocery carts during round up at 30of force for 150' on asphalt.

  • Bending/Twisting: Frequently at the waist and knees to lift bags of groceries from counter into grocery carts.

  • Kneeling/Crawling: Kneeling can be performed occasionally to lift products from low levels, however squatting is recommended. Crawling is never required.
