The Freight Accounting Analyst is expected to develop a strong understanding of the market and will interact effectively with the Finance and Accounting Teams, in addition to other internal and potentially external customers. This person will examine the competition and industry standards, identifying any specific strategies that the competition is using.

Core Responsibilities

  • Cross-Functional Communication and Collaboration within Various Departments and Leadership

  • Audit Accounting Invoices

  • Analyze and Interpret Accounting Records

  • Research Complex Accounting Issues

  • Provide Internal Management Regulatory Reports

Essential Functions

  • Work in close partnership with field sales and the Pricing/Financial Managers to manage the overall pricing, programs, and product functions and processes.

  • Analyze all pricing activities including discounts, allowances, programs, and contract price levels, and develop recommendations to improve profitability and mix.

  • Prepare and review key financial reporting schedules for management on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.

  • Prepares and analyze financial statements, various reports and financial records for assigned books of business or companies.

  • Provide critical customer-focused financial analysis and perspective including ROI and scenario analysis to field sales, marketing, and finance, as necessary.

  • Act as the "voice-of-reason" to ensure good financial decisions are made in the best interest of the company.

  • Develop and implement appropriate tactics for the pricing area to achieve agreed targets and objectives.

  • Liaison with Accounting and Finance Teams on projects to ensure that accounting needs are met.

  • Monitor/measure and report performance of programs/contracts to sales teams and management.

  • Actively participate in the setting, review and revision of optimal pricing guidelines and parameters.

  • Effectively apply best-practice revenue and pricing techniques, tools and models.

  • Perform ad-hoc reporting, special projects, and other department support as needed.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in financial/accounting analysis in manufacturing/consumer goods environment preferred

  • 3+ years of pricing experience strongly preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in financial or business field is required

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel experience required

  • Great Plains software experience preferred

  • System Database Management experience preferred

  • Good organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
