YOUR OBJECTIVE

You love the analytical side of fashion. When the Designer presents you with a fleece hoodie you dont see the hoodie, you see a puzzle. How to make it so all of the pieces - the bodice, the arms, the kangaroo pocket, the hood, the zipper, the drawstring, the cuff, the silk screen how will they fit together and then fit properly on people? You make this puzzle work and then make sure our factories and vendors get it right too. This is a freelance and/or temporary 3 - 6 month role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • You will work with Product Developers, and Designers to interpret the fit and construction of products designed by the Design Team and with the Quality Manager on production challenges of fit
  • You will partner with internal teams to ensure development of quality product that can be manufactured proficiently and efficiently to Life Is Good fit, quality and construction standards while achieving designers vision
  • You will build and issue accurate, detailed development and graded specs utilizing designer's initial flat sketch, hand-off sheet, reference samples
  • You will maintain fit blocks and updated pattern library, create new fit blocks as needed. You will apply adjustments as needed to blocks and patterns
  • You will schedule and manage fit sessions
  • You will review all samples for compliance to Life is Good measurement, fit, construction and quality standards. You will achieve style approval for production with the three or fewer samples
  • You will review all patterns prior to fit session for balance, measurement and shape to achieve best fit
  • You will assess samples before fit session ensuring all requirements have been met. You will present all related information from the previous fit session to allow for complete and accurate review of garment
  • You will conduct fittings, pinning/cutting the garment, resolving any fit issues and demonstrating to the design/product teams that the corrections being applied will result in the desired look
  • You will communicate with suppliers on all technical issues, providing technical expertise on how to correct or achieve a desired look giving detailed feedback on samples. You will insure that final specs include all corrections agreed to during the development process
  • You will conduct seasonal competitive analysis to assess current fit trends on Life is Good product category agreed to by technical design, product management and design
  • You will assess and maintain grading library
  • You will partner with Hudson, NH inspection team to be aware of production issues that have been delivered to Life is Good. You will work with product development and design to make changes to products to avoid quality issues that we can impact through changes to product in development. You will communicate changes to vendors
  • You will be responsible for teaching our vendors Life is Good fit and technical spec pack standards

Examples of Things You Will Do

  • You will be responsible for the fit and construction of Life is Good apparel and wearing accessories
  • You will work with design and product development teams to develop fit from the initial stages through to production, including working from the initial design sketch through preparation of construction specs and the development of detailed spec packages
  • You will lead and conduct fittings, conduct competitive analysis and initiate tech packs from initial spec through graded spec for production
  • You will travel to Life is Good factories to work with Technical Pattern Makers in factories
  • You will spend 90% of the time looking at a computer monitor and using a keyboard, spend time lifting and evaluating product; must be able to visually approve fit and quality of product, travel 40% of the time

Your Experience and

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years experience in technical design, pattern making, garment construction and fitting in a variety of apparel categories.
  • Experience with domestic and international factories
  • Experience with communicating with people from different cultures and with whom English is not their first language
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Illustrator and PLM
  • BS in Apparel Design or equivalent experience
