Free People Assistant Technical Designer - Leathergoods, Bags And Belts

Role Summary

Free People is looking for an Assistant Technical Designer - Leathergoods, Bags and Belts to join the Product Development team to develop market leading own brand product. This will be a fast-paced role to support the Product Development team to achieve great product standards and to meet customer expectations. There will be opportunities to learn about materials, construction, testing, fitting, grading, legal requirements etc.

Role Responsibilities

• Sealing sheet meeting prep - arranging previous counter samples.

• Assisting in technical review meetings to identify any make fit/construction notes.

• Tech/QA sample management - shipping, tracking, prep documentation.

• Manage test reports - follow-ups and approvals.

• Manage 3rd party inspection booking.

• Manage approved samples in sample closet.

• Daily communication with global vendors.

• Manage wear trial samples & feedback.

• Continuously go through customer website reviews and update the team on negative reviews, go through physical customer returns.

• Support internal teams like customer service, wholesale sales, etc. with specifications.

Role Qualifications

• Must have Fashion Design or related college degree with strong passion for footwear/accessories.

• Understanding of bag/belt terminology, components and constructions is must.

• Must be able to sketch, make CADs of technical bag/belt drawings.

• Knowledge of development process.

• Technically competent with software programs, Excel/Outlook, and fluency with Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightbox.

• Knowledge of synthetic materials and leathers.

• Understand design aesthetic and translate it into appropriate product presentations.

• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
