About the FP&A Team

The FP&A Analyst will apart of a small, influential and growing FP&A team at Thumbtack. We are a fast growing startup and investing heavily, so we will need a crisp view on how to make the best investments right now so we can build a massive and profitable business.

About You

You are a curious, flexible, fast and passionate analyst who is interested in being stretched, grow, and push the people around you to do better in a collaborative not confrontational way. You're both willing to roll up your sleeves to do the hard work it takes to succeed, and also to step back and plan for a much bigger future. You are not satisfied with easy answers and want to really understand what is going on so we can make things better. In other words, you have a passion for customers, shareholders, and data.


Your focus will be to develop a deep understanding of our external competition, evaluate business impact new initiatives, analyze customer acquisition strategies, and broadly enable better strategic decision making through data. Additionally, you will be exposed to the entire P&L and have a uniquely position enable better decision making across the business. This position requires a strategically-minded and accomplished finance professional with consistent results in dynamic, high-growth businesses.

Expense forecasting, reporting and insights

  • Support the annual budget, quarterly forecast and long-term strategic planning processes

  • Refine detailed financial models that forecast and analyze functional costs to fully understand sources of variance and, ultimately, improve forecast accuracy

  • Scope & eventually lead implementation of FP&A planning software

Strategic planning & analysis

  • Develop financial models that guide our strategic decision-making on key p&l drivers

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive repository of competitive intelligence

  • Evaluate new product features and plans to access business impact

  • Understand user acquisition by assessing financial return and impact to the business

  • Work closely with teams that project revenue to provide ongoing insights

  • Produce high-impact value-add analysis for business partners

  • Constantly look for ways to improve processes

  • Assist on other ad-hoc projects for the FP&A team

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in FP&A, business analysis, or corporate finance

  • Being an expert at excel and google sheets is a requirement

  • Strong project and process management skills, including ability to independently disaggregate problems into defined workplans

  • Detail oriented & high bar for quality

  • General interest in Thumbtack and good interpersonal skills

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Experience in private equity, investment banking, corporate development, strategy consulting, or late-stage venture capital

  • M&A background with experience in strategic and creative thinking, due diligence, modeling and post-merger integration activities a plus

  • Experience with marketplaces and analysing marketplace dynamics is a big plus

  • Experience in both fast growing startups and larger (public) companies a plus

  • Basic SQL skills a plus

  • General interest in Thumbtack and good interpersonal skills
