About the Job...

As an FPGA Engineer, you'll be results-oriented, and collaborate closely with peers to define and implement FPGA logic in high-speed signal applications for electronic test solutions that push the boundaries of the possible and address the current and future needs of our customers.

What success looks like

  • Design measurement systems/subsystems that characterize and verify according to standards, customer devices, interconnects, optical and electrical systems.

  • Push boundaries and develop solutions that delight our customers by thoroughly understanding their needs.

  • Set and meet or, beat schedules for fast and predictable development. Identify project risks and generate alternatives/recommendations to address risk.

  • Never be satisfied, always see room for improvement in process and technology.

  • Be a collaborator and perform peer review and testing, as well as participate in DFx reviews.

  • Conduct research leading to the establishment of feasibility for new products, product features, capabilities, or advanced test and measurement science.

  • Stay current with relevant knowledge regarding new developments and trends in FPGAs/tools.

Requirements:

  • Creativity. Enthusiasm. Discipline. Curiosity for learning.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Experience coding in Verilog for FPGAs.

  • Knowledge and application of electrical engineering principles, practices and techniques commonly employed in the design and development of electronic products.

  • Excellent verbal/written communication and teamwork skills.

  • Strong analytic skills and structured problem-solving skills.

Desired Attributes:

  • Masters or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 5 years of successful design experience working with industry partners such as, high-tech chip vendors, EDA tool vendors, product manufacturers and system integrators.

  • Experience with Intel (Altera) and Xilinx device architecture and tools.

  • Understanding of serial data link protocols and design considerations.

  • Experience with theoretical and working knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) concepts, such Fourier transforms, aliasing, and sample rate adjustment (decimation, interpolation)

We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with a background in electro-mechanical systems. Experience working with military and high-reliability packaging applications is beneficial. The ideal candidate will have the following characteristics: * Diverse product design engineering background (preferably in electronics industry), with a strong understanding of DFM * Have a demonstrated ability to use appropriate analytical tools to vet designs (simulation tools and applicable hand calculations) * Have experience and/or understanding of physical testing requirements for designed products (reliability testing and FEA/CFD simulation evaluation) * Have a strong understanding of heat transfer and structural analysis methods * Able to develop designs which balance performance and cost * Enjoy problem solving and innovating novel solutions * Experience with tooling design and automation a plus * Background developing flip-chip packaging a plus This role will require the candidate to work in a highly collaborative and fast paced environment. Our organization is such that individual responsibilities will range from new product development to sustaining support and product troubleshooting. Areas of focus will range from custom flip-chip BGA/LGA product development to electro-optical mechanical design and RF mechanical module development. This role will require good written and verbal communication skills. Direct communication with internal and external customers will be commonplace. Responsibilities: * Lead all aspects of mechanical design for assigned new product development programs: o Determine product development requirements to survive product performance targets via review of customer supplied documents and applicable industry standards o Execution of product design (FEA/CFD simulation, early physical testing if required, tolerance analysis) o Preparation of applicable reports/presentations in support of design review gates o Facilitate DFM reviews as required, incorporating feedback into final design o Ownership of piece-part and assembly drawing creation and release to production o DFMEA methodology: the lead ME will be responsible for initiating and maintaining DFMEA workflows o Tooling Design: ME's will often be involved either directly or indirectly in design of process and electrical test tooling (product assembly tooling, electrical test systems/sockets) * Participate with cross-functional product troubleshooting teams as required to overcome manufacturing and/or product design issues * Proficient with Computer-Aided Design, Solidworks preferred * Comfortable using Finite Element Analysis tools, ANSYS Mechanical preferred * Comfortable using Computational Fluid Dynamics tools, SolidWorks Flow or ANSYS Icepak preferred * BSME or MSME * 5 years of experience: * Design, qualification and production deployment of complex electro-mechanical systems in application environments with long term reliability * Hands-on CAD design of complex systems * Finite Element Analysis of system concept structures to identify optimum approach for performance, cost, and manufacturability * Structural and thermal simulation (preferably for advanced microelectronic packages) * Demonstrated experience correlating simulation models with test results a strong plus * Ability to identify risks and execute mitigations plans based on both design and process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) * Collaborative individual who interfaces effectively to internal functional teams and customers to influence design trade-offs and establish critical deliverables (even with incomplete requirements) * Creative thinker adept at analytical problem solving and making data-driven decisions * Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes required to design robust solutions * Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills with both internal and external teams. * Excellent written and oral communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences * Experience with configuration control and change management * Experience in military/government compliant contracts a plus When you join Tektronix and Fortive, you will work in an extraordinary team, learning with and from great people, where diversity and inclusion is celebrated.
