Responsible for researching, formulating, and prototyping new oral, topical OTC, and NDA/ANDA drug products as part of product development initiatives.

This position will be a subject matter expert on product formulation and manufacturing scale up. May document and publish peer reviewed journals.

Responsibilities include:

Research, formulate, and prototype new oral, topical OTC, and NDA/ANDA drug products.

Characterize prototype formulations for function, stability, compatibility, and overall product quality.

Evaluate new technologies and products.

Author and review experimental protocols, development reports, and technology transfer reports.

Support formulation scale up to manufacturing sites and new product implementation process. Collaborate with domestic and international manufacturers to troubleshoot problems that arise.

Work with legal to identify opportunities to protect product formulations through patents, trademarks, or other intellectual property techniques.

Manage assigned projects by coordinating timelines and balancing project priorities. Ensure product formulations meet all product specifications.

Review ingredient lists, formulas, and raw materials for compliance with FDA/INCI guidelines.

Proactively work with members of the division or project team to identify issues and provide solutions.

Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related science field.

At least 7 years of experience in pharmaceutical or cosmetic formulation development.

Knowledge of batch manufacturing and process scale up.


Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related science field

Experience in project management.

Knowledge of liquid, semi-solid, and gel based formulations; suspensions; or emulsions

Technical understanding of regulatory pathways related to cosmetic, OTC, monograph, NDA/ANDA drugs.

Position requires travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (domestic and international).

Responsibilities We currently have an opportunity for a Research Scientist, Applications Development. The Research Scientist, Applications Development is responsible for developing protein and cell-based assays using Super Resolution Microscopy as well as ImmunoAssay technology. Assay design and execution of reagent sourcing, evaluation, and prototyping of novel applications with clinically relevant performance is expected. The Research Scientist, Applications Development is required to facilitate prototype development and study execution by leading collaborations with internal and external R&D staff members. This role requires operational knowledge of SRM and IA technology along with experience in cell-culture, and biological sample preparation for imaging. The Research Scientist, Applications Development will contribute as requested in technology transfer, assay development, OEM support, study execution, and troubleshooting in R&D departments of Sysmex Corporation. The Research Scientist, Applications Development will guide other scientists in technical training and will follow the R&D direction of Sysmex group. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. With oversight of the management team of R&D Center Americas, The Research Scientist, Applications Development will lead projects by designing and executing experiments, accomplishing established milestones and summarizing data, interpreting, resulting and drawing conclusions.2. Develop and document methodologies for applications in protein and cell-based assays3. Generate and champion new project ideas in the view of assay development for study and for product.4. Generate impactful results by analyzing data from multiple experiments, formulating conclusions and determining future experiments by collaborating with internal and external scientists. Additionally promote innovation through grant writing, patent filings, and/or scientific publications.5. Lead application prototyping for super resolution microscopy, immunoassay and other protein and cell-based assays, not limited to Sysmex's including training lower-level scientists. And support OEM or other teams, and maintain and share industry standards with internal stakeholders.6. Establish and review complex plans, and manage multiple projects or activities.7. Anticipate, recognize and resolve technical problems for evaluation, development and technology transfer of new applications including existing application by collaborating with R&D staff members of Sysmex group. (Identification of technical alternatives or new directions for promoting research, etc)8. Report and present not only to the Management team of R&D Center Americas but also to internal and external related persons about the progress of the research plans and each application evaluation and assay prototyping results by appropriate documents. 9. Follow good laboratory practices, maintain instruments of laboratory and control consumables appropriately and participate in lab safety. Additionally guide other scientists to follow established guidelines.10. Manage expenses in line with guidelines, ensure operational efficiency and good time management. Travel Percentage: 10% Qualifications * MS/Ph.D. degree in physical sciences, life sciences, biology, engineering, or other technical or scientific area. 5-7 years' experience in Technology evaluation (biomarker or medical-related technology), Collaboration experience with academia. * Working knowledge of high-end microscopy, especially SRM is required. * Knowledge and experience in immunoassay, biological sample preparation and handling is required. * Supervisory experience. * Prior knowledge of computational resources related to large scale imaging data. * Japanese language ability a plus. * Microsoft Suite ; PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Internet Explorer. * Build strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of team to enable higher performance. * Basic presentation and persuasive skills desirable. * Demonstrated ability to evaluate procedure, analyze data and make decisions critical to the appropriate assessment of research result. * Demonstrated ability to plan and manage complex research activity. * Demonstrated ability to both independently and collaboratively solve complex problems.
