Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

  • Take complete ownership and responsibility for CDT forming modeling. This includes ownership of existing models and new modeling capability development and strategy on how to use models effectively for problem solving

  • Understand the modeling need of forming technologies from development, engineering to manufacturing and anticipate the future need

  • Build and maintain strong collaboration with business division engineering, manufacturing, and corporate modeling communities.

  • Involves process technology development and design using process simulation and first-principle fundamental understanding.

  • As a leader in glass forming modeling and process fundamentals, identify technologies and develop new processes to advance the capabilities of the Fusion process and lead the technology delivery to manufacturing In this position, you will also have special access to confidential and other highly sensitive information. In accepting this position, you will be required to sign a non-compete agreement that extends for two (2) years after termination of your employment.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of modeling engineers and scientists to continuously improve forming modeling capability and effectively leverage modeling to accelerate technology development for glass forming processes particularly fusion forming process

  • Collaborate with process and design teams to deliver technology

  • Work with project team members to deliver enabling technology to specific business programs including G10.5 expansion

  • Work across organizations to identify and anticipate major modeling capability needs and define strategy and plan to achieve

  • Validate mathematical modeling results with design of experiments in pilot or manufacturing processes. Directly oversee field experimentation, conduct measurements and data analysis, as required.

  • Be a liaison for display technology development with corporate modeling community and actively participate in modeling community planning for CDT

  • Present results and recommendations stake holders in research, development and engineering and other companies as required.

  • Document results in formal technical reports. Submit invention disclosures and identify inventions of others.

education and experience (minimum required for consideration) ms or phd in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, material engineering or applied mathematics minimum 5 years' experience in related field

Corning's Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world. Scope of Position As the Corning Environmental Technologies (CET) Development Intern, you will have the opportunity to develop an operating understanding for the Malvern Insitec in-line particle size analyzer and its associated sampling techniques including hardware for semi-dense phase sample collection. You will identify the limits and instrument capability to test more than a single raw material stream at one time from a single instrument. Additionally, you will determine the minimum and maximum number of raw material streams that can be sampled and can accurately provide a representative particle size distribution from a single Malvern Insitec instrument. Day to Day Responsibilities: * Design experiments, execute, analyze and draw preliminary conclusions that permit additional experimentation planning. * Present the results to a group of co-workers and colleagues. * Provide hands on execution of experiments in plant settings collecting data and driving experiments to completion. * Report writing, spreadsheet operations, graphical analyses, provides basic Microsoft Office operations of everyday laboratory work to include Power Point, Excel, and Word. * Work closely with the equipment manufacturer to optimize how the measurement equipment is being used to utilize the full potential of the technology within the Corning applications.
