This position is located on the National Forests in Alabama / Oakmulgee Ranger District in Brent, AL.

Serves as an assistant to the District's Silviculturist. Primary responsibilities are assisting the Silviculturist in planning, development, and implementation of the District's Silviculture and Reforestation program.

Responsibilities

Duties are at the full performance level:

Plans implementation of the individual vegetation management projects . Develops site specific diagnosis of treatment needs for site preparation, natural and artificial regeneration, animal damage control, release, stocking level control. Plans, leads and/or conducts survival and stocking surveys/inspection.

Conducts vegetative examinations of designated areas to evaluate existing conditions. Develops sampling design and intensity.

Plans, prepares, coordinates and administers contracts for forest management following well documented proceedures. Serves as Contracting Officer Representative. Works with acquisition management (AQM) on contracting tools -contract packages.

Acts as the SAT (Silviculture Activity Data-base), FACTS, or current program, coordinator. Maintains/updates the silvicultural electronic folders, electronic activity database and associated GIS layer(s). Prepares District attainment and accomplishment data.

Consults with various specialists for clarification or validation to correctly implement planned projects. Resolves routine conflicts. Refers to silviculturist major conflicts or barriers to sound project implementation .

Assists the Zone Silviculturist in the preparation of various reforestation/thinning upward reports. Maintains and updates SAI (Sale Area Improvement) plans for active timber sales. Prepares annual KV fund balance report .

Travel Required

Occasional travel - Occasional travel with overnight lodging may be required for meetings, training, workshops, and field/site visits.

For the GS-8 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experence equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7); OR two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of successfully completed graduate level education or master's degree if the coursework is directly related to the work of the position (such as forestry, range management, agriculture); OR combinations of graduate level education that is directly related to the position (in excess of 18 semester/27 quarter hours) and specialized experience.

The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. Examples of specialized experience are:Assisting with field evaluations; providing information for site treatment needs, site preparation, natural and artificial regeneration, and stocking level control; serving as Contracting Officer Representative on specific contracts as assigned; Maintaining/updating the district/zone silvicultural electronic folders, electronic activity database and associated GIS layer(s); and conducting vegetative examinations of designated areas at the polygon level to evaluate existing conditions.

Requirements POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Essential: * Must have basic math, reading and writing abilities. * Must be able to follow oral and written instructions. * Job requires accepting responsibility for the planning of menu activity. * Job requires employee to make judgments (ordering, scheduling). * Job requires employee to define problems such as over or under production. * Must be able to measure accurately and have sufficient dexterity to handle food and equipment efficiently and safely. * Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds with minimal effort following required safety guidelines. * Must be able to bend or stoop frequently at many intervals during the day. * Must be able to twist and rotate 180 degrees during each day. * Must be able to see near and far. * Must be able to tolerate sudden and extreme changes in temperatures. * Must be able to follow the Health Standards of the foodservice industry. * Job requires employee to count or weigh items; add, subtract, multiply and divide; measure numbers, proportions and quantities of food products. * Must be able to stand for at least 8 hours a day. * Must be able to walk on concrete surface. * Must be able to reach short distances into the ovens to retrieve cooked products. * Job will require working under stress when confronted with emergency situations which working wtih speed is essential. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE: 1. Follow all company and client policies, rules and regulations. * Be to work on time. Responsible for preparing, cooking and portioning all menu items by following instructions on standardized recipes. * Check menus, prepare and cook items following standard recipes completing the cooking by serving time. * Check temperatures of food items and logs before serving. * After line is served, remove leftovers and clean area. * Cover, date and store leftover food. * Review menu for following day production by making a list of frozen items to be pulled. * Pull frozen menu items needed for following day production. 3. Maintain cooking area and equipment in a clean, sanitary, neat and orderly manner. * Handle food, equipment and utensils in accordance with sanitary and safety regulations. * Wash and sanitize all pots and pans after preparing meals. * Ensure that all areas are clean before leaving each day. 4.
