Positions in this job family are professional foresters assigned responsibilities to develop, implement, or administer forestry conservation and management programs, wildland fire management and projects in an assigned district, region, or statewide.


This job family consists of five levels which are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the level of expertise required to complete assigned tasks, and the responsibility assigned for providing leadership to others.

Level III:

This is the specialist level where employees are assigned supervisory responsibilities of foresters, protection personnel, technicians or other employees, prepare management plans for designated forest properties, conduct forest surveys, advise landowners on forestry conservation techniques, coordinate forestry activities with local agencies and groups, and preform administrative tasks as required including budget preparation and administration. Plan, organize, and develop all aspects of a specific program related to forest conservation and use or are assigned all aspects of the forestry program and delivery of services in an assigned district.

Some positions may be assigned responsibility for special forestry programs or projects, such as supervising and/or performing work in forest utilization and forest products marketing or urban forestry, and conducting surveys and evaluations of forest activities including harvesting, site preparation and planting, watershed surveys of silvicultural activities and their effect on water resources. In this role they will serve as a staff member in the Forestry Services Division with responsibility for developing assigned programs and provide functional or direct supervision and training to lower level foresters in conducting assigned programs. These positions are responsible for all phases of development and coordination of assigned programs.


Level III:

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor's degree in forestry from a Society of American Foresters accredited degree program or a related natural resources degree with a total of 56 semester credit hours with 51 semester credits which includes coursework in ecology and forestry biology, management of forest resources, measurement of forest resources, and forest resource policy, economics and administration, and an additional 5 credit hours in any of the forestry related coursework areas and three years of professional forestry experience.


Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.

Certification by the Department of Agriculture as a Pesticide Applicator must be obtained prior to the completion of the probationary period.

Responsible for ensuring compliance with all associated regulations and standards. Responsible for electric reliability related to vegetation programs. Accountable for the company's distribution or transmission vegetation management operations as assigned. Accountable for the effective and efficient clearing of vegetation hazards near or at OG&E facilities. Primary Duties: * Manage service reliability relating to regional assignment. * Serves as an advisor to other areas on issues related to vegetation management. * Manage the resolution of Oklahoma Corporation Commission complaints, Arkansas Public Service Commission complaints, customer complaints and customer refusals. * Ensure customer satisfaction by providing direct customer interfaces with all levels of both the internal and external customer base. * Give NERC compliance and/or civil lawsuit testimony as needed. * Promote a safety culture by performing duties consistent with IIF. * Monitor and assess progress for contractors, as needed. Ensure corrective actions are taken as necessary to ensure performance against contract and standards. * Coordinate and monitor emergency work as required. * Maintains a positive working relationship with all departments of the Company. * Provides expert utility arborist knowledge as required. * Accurately maintain records of completed circuit clearing and other vegetation management work. Requirements: * Bachelor's Degree in a Life Science field such as Horticulture, Forestry, Biology, Botany, or Landscape Architecture with Five (5) years' experience working in a field with associated primary duties such as a Lineman, Sales Professional, Geographic Information System (GIS) Professional, Arborist, or in Land Management; Or a Bachelor's Degree in in any discipline with Three (3) years of work experience in the field of Arboriculture; Or a High School Diploma or GED equivalent with Seven (7) years of Field Experience in a job involved with Utility Construction, Maintenance or Service Restoration to include all Utilities (i.e., Electric, Water, Phone, or Gas) with Three (3) years of experience in the field of Arboriculture. * OK or AR Pesticide Applicator License with ROW Classification (within 90 days of hire). * ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) Certification as Certified Arborist. * Valid State Driver's License. * Required to maintain permanent residence within thirty (30) minute commute of operational location where the position is based. RELOCATION ASSISTANCE IS NOT AUTHORIZED FOR THIS POSITION Preferred Qualifications: * ISA Utility Specialist certification * Experience with a community or vegetation related advocacy group as a technical advisor, board member or other ranking position (i.e. OKVMA, local tree board, ISA, UAA, SAF, MWISA, Up With Trees, OKC Beautiful, OK Urban and Community Forestry Council, etc.) * Working knowledge of distribution and transmission electrical system. Understanding of electrical hazards and recognize maximum nominal voltages * SAP, Mobile Data Unit, CADS, ArcFM, GIS and/or other company supported software * Working knowledge of IVM (Integrated Vegetation Management) and the proper application of IVM techniques Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Strong Knowledge of vegetation management practices and potential impact of vegetation on electrical systems. * Working knowledge of IVM (Integrated Vegetation Management) and the proper application of IVM techniques. * Knowledge of proper herbicide use and techniques. * Knowledge of various tree species in the work areas and knowledge of their typical growth rates and patterns. * Knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements related to vegetation management. * Strong analytical and problem solving skills; demonstrated good judgment in arriving at decisions and recommendations. * Strong written and oral communication skills. * Strong planning and organizational skills; ability to meet schedules and critical timelines. * Ability to lead, develop and coach a team. * Ability to supervise a contract work force. * Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. * Knowledge of and implementation of safety practices and procedures for both internal and external work forces. * Ability to interact effectively and handle difficult situations with internal and external customers. * Knowledge and a legal understanding of easement and Rights-of-Ways.
