What We Do:

OhioMHAS operates regional psychiatric hospitals in six locations across the state that operate 365/24/7. Our specialized facilities provide short-term, intensive treatment to patients in both inpatient and community-supported environments. We also deliver comprehensive care to patients committed through the criminal justice system.

Position Location: Summit Behavioral Healthcare, 1101 Summit Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45237

Work Hours: 8:00 a.m.

  • 4:30 p.m. Monday

  • Friday | Some Sundays required - approx once every six weeks

What You'll Do:

  • Provides occupational therapy treatment & services to patients with physical &/or emotional handicaps based upon established standards of care per population (e.g., acute, adult, intermediate, geriatric, forensic, MI/DD & SAMI..) served within the facility: measures patients= developmental/psycho social functions & physical capabilities (e.g., motor, cognitive, perceptual, behavioral..) using standardized &/or non-standardized assessment measuring tools, plans, implements, & evaluates treatment programs & treats patients either one-to-one or in groups for psycho social, developmental dysfunction & physical dysfunction, coordinates treatment plans with other facility programs for optimum patient benefits, develops patient psycho social skills, cognitive integration, activities of daily living, independent living skills, & at times sensory motor skills which do not require specialized services, experience & treatment time of a physical rehabilitation occupational therapy clinic, determines appropriate therapy techniques & sequence, modifies as appropriate to assist patient to achieve maximum function (e.g., to develop patient's social skills, problem solving skills, practice in daily living skills, provide patients means & opportunity to communicate thoughts & feelings, prepare patients for involvement in other treatment programs, prepare patients to accept their discharge setting, develop patient's ability to recognize signs when they need assistance to prevent future hospitalization, assist older patients to adjust to life changes due to aging.)

  • Provides consultation: participates as interdisciplinary treatment team member (e.g., attends meetings, reports patient progress, makes treatment & aftercare recommendations, identifies patient discharge needs..), provides consultation to patients, healthcare professionals, & family members regarding patients progress, treatment recommendations, & integration of plans with other facility programs, suggest & monitor appropriate activities for patient's skill levels & instruct other staff in procedures necessary to do so; provides consultation & work direction to Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTA), & OT & OTA students.

  • Fulfills documentation requirements: documents patient evaluations & recommendations, goals, progress, treatment plans, changes in treatment, & discharge summaries, uses computerized Patient Care System to enter &/or retrieve patient information, access system to retrieve &/or respond to e-mail, maintains records of patient progress notes & patient attendance at treatment; submits monthly statistical reports.
