What you'll do:

  • Lead a tight-knit crew, creating and promoting a positive team environment

  • Interpret tree trimming, removal and spraying orders initiated by General Foreman or representative of the customer

  • Plan and layout daily work for your crew. (Considering time required to complete work, clean-up time, equipment available, weather conditions, customer's permission, etc.)

  • Perform a Pre-Job Hazard Survey at each job site with all crew members and assigns work tasks based on an individual's knowledge skills and abilities.

  • Perform line clearing and tree trimming duties for Lewis Tree Service's utility customers including pruning treetops and limbs, trimming or removal of at-risk/damaged trees as well as removing broken limbs from wires, roofs, etc.

  • Climb trees and operate a bucket for trimming and removals in and above the power lines.

  • Prepare, operate and maintain all tools and equipment including hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.

  • Remove limbs and brush, cleanup and dispose of debris.

  • Mixing and apply spray chemicals, preserving desirable vegetation

  • Safeguard employees and the public from hazards in and around the working area. Enforce on-the-job safety practices.

What you'll need:

  • Two years or more experience working as a Trimmer/Climber, working around utility lines.

  • Ability to lead people including strong communication skills

  • Knowledge of trees including identification, growth habits and correct arboriculture techniques for the trimming, pruning, repairing, maintaining and removing, as applicable to working close to energized conductors.

  • Experience in tree climbing, knot tying and PPE

  • Understanding of drawings and symbols representing types of lines, voltage, line equipment, etc.

  • Ability to perform physical labor such as lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. to shoulder height or more.

  • Capable of operating two-handed equipment (chain saw, circular saw, etc.) and have the physical ability to endure extreme climate variances.

  • Willing and able to obtain specialized training and certifications as required, such as: CDL

  • Local, state and federal licenses

  • First Aid and CPR cards

  • Pass a pre-employment drug test and job duty skills tests

The foreman will be responsible for installing roofing system in the safest, highest quality and most cost effective manner. Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The lists below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Minimum Qualifications * Education: High School/ G.E.D * Years of Experience: 4-5 years of roofing experience * Certifications: OSHA-30 * Driver License: Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Knowledge of Safety techniques and procedures and set up a Safety plan, including tool box talks, safety huddles, equipment inspections * Ability to work independently and supervise and lead the crew to meet quality and production goals. Calculate and control labor projections and material needs including inventories. Supervise subcontractors. * Ability to train the crew and subcontractors as needed * Attention to detail, ability to prioritize task and meet deadlines. Supervise for quality control. * Ability to organized, plan, and execute work assignments * Ability to read shop drawings and reproduce details. Knowledge of how to layout roofs and walls. * Ability to climb ladders, stairways and scaffolding * Interpersonal and leadership skills necessary to work with the team * Ability to conduct on site meetings with the crew and subcontractors. * General knowledge of construction materials and tools involved in the assembly, installation or repair of roofing structures. Metal metallurgy compatibility. * Ability to perform general physical activities in construction areas * Ability to identify problems and develop solutions in order to accomplish work * Ability to identify and resolves problems in a timely manner * Ability to use oral or written communication to convey information effectively. Meet with GC and customers. Ability to receive Manufacturer training. * Use of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems * Observance of performance of yourself, coworkers or organization to make improvements or take corrective action * Ability to complete daily paperwork Essential Functions * Thoroughly review job file and shop drawing with Project manager and including the scope of work, materials ordered and delivery schedule, budget for labor productions (man days) and job site contacts * Ensure that proper safety and equipment is on the job and used in the proper manner. Foreman needs to coordinate these needs with the Project Manager, but is ultimately responsible. * Supervise and support crew everyday with regard to safety, quality and labor production. Monitor and maintain job site cleanliness and daily housekeeping. * Ensure that all materials received are counted and compared to purchase order. * Monitor material needs on a daily basis. Plan several days ahead to avoid running out of materials. * Make sure on site equipment is monitored and maintained, such as oil changes on kettle motors, belts on cutters, etc. Notify warehouse of any broken or defective equipment before returning. * Communicate with Project Manager, everyday regarding job progress, field problems, technical questions, etc. * Prepare and submit daily job reports and time sheets, as directed by Department Head. * Responsible for overall safety and quality of each job. This includes checking for water tightness, mops left on roof, and ensuring job site is complete and has been cleaned up properly. Coordinate punch list and job close out before crew leaves job site for the last time. * Review job performance with Project manager in regards to safety, quality and budget when job has been completed. * Attend all coordination planning meetings. * Must complete paperwork such as time sheets, safety huddles, material and sheet metal shop requisitions, job reports, & tool box talks. * Knowledge of how to cut, shape, fit, join and install metal, insulation, ice & water shields, wood or other construction materials. Calculate stretch outs to maximize use of materials. * Installation and pipe boots, ridge/hip caps, rake, eave lock and ice & water shield * Installation of roof/wall panels, counter flashing, coping, fascia, gutters, miters, downspouts, roof curbs * Must have general knowledge of how to seam and solder * Must know how to take trim and panels measurements. Clips spacing plans. * Clean up debris from the roof surface and surrounding property. * Install, repair, or replace single-ply roofing systems, using waterproof sheet materials such as modified plastics, elastomeric, or other asphaltic compositions. * Cut metal, felt, shingles, and strips of flashing and fit them into angles formed by walls, vents, and intersecting roof surfaces. * Install vapor barriers and/or layers of insulation on the roof decks of roofs, and seal the seams. * Cover exposed nail heads with roofing cement or caulking to prevent water leakage and rust. * Cut roofing paper to size using knives, and nail or staple roofing paper to roofs in overlapping strips to form bases for other materials. * Install partially overlapping layers of material over roof insulation surfaces, determining distance of roofing material overlap using chalk lines, gauges on shingling hatchets, or lines * Covering roofs and exterior walls of structures with metal, slate, asphalt, aluminum, wood, gravel, gypsum, and/or related materials, using brushes, knives, punches, hammers and other tools. * Operating Vehicles, mechanized devices, or equipment * Repair cracks, defects, or damage, using proper materials * Physical ability to stand and walk, lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds regularly * Apply adhesives, caulking, sealants, or coatings * Inspect equipment, structures and material * Train and coach other employees * Evaluate information to determine compliance with standards * Adhere to company safety policies and procedures Physical Demands * Requires standing up for long periods of time on roofs * Requires climbing ladders, scaffolds, or poles * Requires considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body in order to climb, lift, balance, walk, and handling materials on roofs * Requires use abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without giving out or fatiguing * Requires to see details at close range * Requires repetitive movement, bending or twisting, kneeling, crouching, stooping or crawling on roofs * Requires physical ability to stand and walk, lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds regularly Work Environment * Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions, in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures, Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. * Includes exposure to contaminants, hazardous material or equipment * Mistakes are not easily correctable and have serious consequences, therefore Safety procedures need to be followed * Requires exposure to minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings * Requires exposure to high places or dangerous conditions Disclaimer The statements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
