FOOD TRANSPORTATION WAREHOUSE ASSISTANT

DEFINITION

Under supervision, to perform routine manual and clerical work in the control, receipt, storage and issuance of equipment, supplies and foodstuffs; to operate a light or medium truck in the pickup and delivery of warehouse items or foodstuffs to school cafeterias; may be required to replace Food Service Warehouse Worker in the absence of regular personnel; and do related work as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Assists in receiving materials, equipment, supplies and foodstuffs delivered on purchase orders; inspects shipments for conformity to purchase order specifications, noting and reporting discrepancies; stores stock in warehouse; drives a truck on a regular route to various schools and offices to and from warehouse; arranges for the distribution of stock to various departments according to requisitions; wraps, packs, and otherwise prepares parcels and goods for shipment; keeps shelves and goods in a clean and orderly condition; assists in taking stock inventory; loads and unloads trucks with supplies and equipment; picks up and delivers paperwork, miscellaneous supplies and equipment; operates a forklift; assists in maintaining inventory control of warehouse stock; assists in preparing purchase requisitions for warehouse items to replenish stock level.

SPECIAL REOUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver's License; a safe driving record to insure acceptance by the District's insurance carrier. Food Safety Handler's certificated needs to be obtained within ninety days of employment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Warehousing in its physical aspect of proper and orderly storage of foodstuffs and equipment; inventory stocking procedures and forms; traffic laws and safe driving practices.

Ability to:

Perform simple clerical recordkeeping work; make simple arithmetical calculations; understand and carry out oral and written directions; operate a light truck skillfully and safely; perform moderately heavy physical labor; lift 100 pounds; work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work.

Experience:

One year of experience in receiving, storing, issuing stock or maintaining inventory control records preferred.

Education:

High School diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS Positions in this class are distinguished from positions in the class of Custodian by the daytime assignment of complete responsibility for the care and cleaning problems of the High School. The incumbent is usually the only custodial worker during the day, however, at times may be required to exercise supervision over incumbents in the class of Custodian and substitute Custodian on an overlapping shift. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Confers with the Principal, Plant Manager and Night Lead Man Custodian regarding problems relating to the care and cleaning of the school plant campus; inspects and maintains a level of cleanliness according to predetermined standards; reports needed repair work to proper authorities as appropriate; participate in setting up classrooms, cafeterias and auditoriums for special events; makes minor non-technical repairs and adjustments to plant campus equipment, furniture and fixtures; sweeps, cleans, mops and waxes floors and hallways; sweeps and dusts offices; picks up papers and sweeps sidewalks; requisitions needed custodial material, supplies, and equipment; performs special custodial work as requested; participates in the major cleaning of the plant campus during the summer months; inspects work in progress and upon completion; raises and lowers flags; keeps simple records; operates and adjusts heating and ventilating equipment; replaces broken windows. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS LICENSE REQUIRED Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver's License. Knowledge of: Methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work; requirements for the safe maintenance of school facilities; maintaining maintenance of school buildings to keep them in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Ability to: Interact with District work-order system; Rread and understand directions in use of for using chemicals and solutions; use cleaning materials, equipment and methods according to predetermined standards; estimate quantity and types of materials and supplies needed; make minor non-technical repairs; operate heating and ventilating equipment; keep records and prepare reports; supervise the work of custodial personnel; understand and carry out oral and written directions; perform moderately heavy manual labor; develop and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
