A Food Service Specialist is responsible for providing a well stocked and maintained department while providing superior customer service. This position is responsible for preparing, packaging, and merchandising fresh product on a daily basis while maintaining all department and food safety / sanitation standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES of the position:

  • Provides superior customer service

  • Prepares, packages, and merchandises fresh product

  • Takes orders from customers by telephone or in person

  • Answers customer questions regarding products and assists them with selections

  • Slices, packages, labels, and rotates products

  • Uses suggestive selling techniques to meet customer needs and build department sales

  • Scan in items on telxon for production

  • Assists in technical areas as needed

  • Merchandises product effectively

  • Cleans and sanitizes display cases

  • Properly handles and maintains the operation of all equipment

  • Makes regular announcements to inform customers of products

  • Complies with Company Food Safety and Sanitation standards

  • Compliance with departmental SOPS and store operating procedures

ADDITIONAL DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC RESONSIBILITIES of the position:

BAKERY:

  • Assist in technical areas as needed (e.g. baking, frying, and decorating)

  • Takes cake orders from customers by telephone or in person

  • Writes on cakes with icing on request

  • Slices, packages, labels, and rotates bakery products

  • Makes announcements to inform customers of freshly baked products

DELI:

  • Handle guest transactions & takes orders

  • Slices, packages, and labels product

  • Weighs, prices, and packages selections

FOOD SERVICE:

  • Takes orders from customers by telephone or in person

  • Slices, packages, labels, and rotates products

  • Properly handles and maintains the operation of all equipment

  • Makes regular announcements to inform customers of products

PREPARED FOODS:

  • Serves and packages products at customer's request

  • Educates customers in preparation and reheating instructions of prepared foods

  • Prepackages condiments (sauces, dressings) for prepared food items

  • Cuts, slices, dices, chops, food in preparation for chef

True Texas BBQ

  • Compliance with departmental recipes, VTAs, SOPs, and store operating procedures.

  • Masters the preparation of BBQ meats and sides to include adjusting daily production to account for raw material variations

  • Cuts meat to precise portions by weight with minimal waste

  • Ensures quality control of all meats and sides before sending to the service line

  • Ensures BBQ product reaches the service lines at the prescribed times

  • Ensures productivity standards are met without compromising product quality

  • Ensures all potentially hazardous foods (PHF) are maintained under the appropriate ambient temperatures

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE preferred:

  • Must be 18 years of age

  • High school diploma (or equivalent)

  • 1-2 years previous experience

  • Good Customer Service Skills

  • Reading and Writing skills

  • Planning and Organizing Skills

  • Communication/Interpersonal skills

  • Computer systems knowledge (Telxon, ACR, Label Machine)

  • Company Orientation

  • Safety Training

  • Good Customer Service Skills
