Tanque Verde Unified School District is seeking a Food Services Assistant for Tanque Verde Elementary School. This is a 25 hour per week position.

The ideal candidate will have experience in food service. Must follow Pima County Food Service Safety and Health Regulations; Be able to learn and operate a POS Terminal. Perform food preparation and serve student meals. Be able to operate a commercial dishwashing machine. Prepare food preparation tasks, sets up and replinishes serving lines and ala carte items. Willing to work in a team environment and be familiar with health and food safety. Collects and counts lunch money and meal tickets, makes deposits when necessary. Maintains sanitation, health and safety standards in work area. Assists in food inventory of supplies. Performs other related duties as assigned; Must have a valid driver's license.

Example of Duties:

  • Sets up and replenish serving lines, serves students in food service units, and stocks a la carte snack items.

  • Performs food preparation tasks such as sandwich and salad making, cutting and preparing vegetables, and beverage preparation, following written standardized recipes.

  • Clean and process fruits and vegetables and prepares various salads, according to standardized recipes.

  • Scrapes and sorts dirty dishes, silverware and glassware and operates dishwashing machines.

  • Collects and counts lunch money and meal tickets, makes deposits when necessary.

  • Handles bookkeeping for student meal tickets.

  • Maintains sanitation, health and safety standards in work area.

  • Sweeps and mops floors in the kitchen area.

  • Empties trash into the outside dumpster as needed.

  • Assists in food inventory of supplies and a la carte items.

and/or operate satellite food service areas that are located in outlying areas of campus are somewhat autonomous.

  • Performs food preparation tasks such as salad and sandwich making and beverage preparation, following written standardized recipes.

  • Maintains stock levels and submits requisitions to supervisor for replacement items such as condiments or raw ingredients.

  • Operates cash registers; receives money from customers and makes correct change.

  • Maintains sanitation, health and safety standards in work area which may be located in outlying areas of campus.

  • Opens and closes a unit as assigned.

  • May perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to follow Pima County Food Service regulations.

  • Ability to lift heavy loads (from 25 to 60 pounds).

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.

  • Ability to bend, reach, and turn while working.

  • Ability to run a terminal (cash register).

  • Knowledge of food service operations including sanitation standards and food preparation.

  • Knowledge of food service equipment, such as steamers, slicers and fryers.

  • Ability to multi-task, and complete tasks in a timely manner.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any combination of experience, training and/or education approved by the district; and,
  • Experience in a food service setting preferred.
  • A current Arizona Type D Drivers License

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Arranges appointments and meetings; coordinates meeting and agenda materials. Supports staff in completion of projects and performs assigned duties in absence of supervisor/manager. Organizes major meetings including distributing materials, arranging for refreshments, and preparing nametags; records meeting minutes through the use of shorthand or rapid long hand to maintain an accurate record of decisions. Schedules appointments; maintain and updates supervisor's daily calendar. Answers telephones, routes callers, takes messages, and provides routine information to callers. Composes letters and memoranda from dictation, verbal direction, or from knowledge of hospital policy or procedures; edits and corrects data on routine documents. Formats special reports and presentations including tabular displays, graphics, and overhead transparencies using Microsoft Office Suite products.
