Summary

NOTE: This is a part-time position (15 hours/week). Benefits and time-off accrual will be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule.

The Food Service Worker will serve as a Food Service Worker aligned under Nutrition and Food Services located at the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System in Topeka, Kansas.

Responsibilities

The Food Service Worker will rotate duties in several units such as cafeteria, nourishment unit, salad unit main kitchen, dining room, vegetable preparation area, dishwashing area. Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following:
Food Service: cleans fruits and vegetables in preparation for salads, desserts or for cooking; assists with portioning nourishment and delivers to patients; sets up service ware dispensing equipment; sets up tray-line station.
Cleaning: scrapes soiled trays, set up dish machine with auxiliary equipment and loads and operates dishwashers. Washes pots and pans, operates the utensil washer. Assists with clean-up in any area; sweeps and mops floors; and performs special cleaning of equipment.
Receives training in all aspects of Nutrition and Food Services in a hospital environment, including tray delivery/retrieval from patients' bedside, tray and table services in dining room and cafeteria, as well as cold food unit portioning standardized quantities.
And all other duties as may be assigned.
Work Schedule: Employee will work various and rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Work is performed within kitchen and dining areas where it is necessary to lift heavy trays, dishes and silverware weighing up to 30 pounds.

May occasionally have to lift up to 45 pounds. Employee must stand for long periods of time, work carefully on slick floors, work with hands in soap and detergents. Is subject to burns, cuts, punctures from equipment used.

May be exposed to extreme temperatures of hot kitchen and cold of walk-in refrigerators. Works in close proximity of ill patients when serving trays at bedside and/or cafeteria lines, thereby being subject to moods of ill patients.
