The Minnesota Veterans Home

  • Minneapolis is looking for part-time Food Service Workers. This position will prepare and portion menu and nourishment items. This position will also perform routine tasks involved in food preparation, food service, dishwashing, and cleaning food service areas. This announcement will be used to fill four (4) identical Food Service Worker positions.

This position is initially eligible for health care benefits with partial employer contribution.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Only applicants whose resumes clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for this position.

Knowledge of:

  • Materials and methods used in preparing food

  • Care and use of cooking utensils and equipment

  • Food values and nutrition

Ability to:

  • Perform simple cooking on a large scale

  • Plan and prepare small meals on a household scale

  • Perform simple cleaning and food service tasks

  • Follow instructions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in prepping, plating and serving food

  • Knowledge of basic sanitation standards

Additional Requirements:

The selection process may include the following:

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check will be conducted on finalists for this position. Finalists must pass the DHS background check.

  • Finalists will be required to pass a job-related pre-employment physical assessment.

  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.

  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
