At a Glance: Lower Columbia College is accepting applications for a Food Service Worker Lead. This position serves as lead employee in food preparation, serving, dishwashing and sanitization functions and overall kitchen organization for Early Learning Center program.

This position is categorized as a Food Service Worker Lead, under State of Washington Class Specification and is overtime-eligible. This is an 11-month position with a typical schedule of 7:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The Food Service Work Lead reports to the Early Learning Center Program Director.  Please note that there will be a 3% COLA applied to the salary range effective July 1, 2024.

  • Serves as lead employee in food preparation, serving, dishwashing and sanitization functions for Early Learning Center program

  • Prepares and cooks USDA meals and snacks

  • Measures, prepares, and serves meals to meet special diet requirements

  • Performs cleaning duties; washes dishes and utensils; walls and counters in kitchen, wipes down shelves and other storage areas.

  • Operates standard kitchen appliances and equipment such as rice cooker, hot plate, oven, electric skillet,  toaster, sanitizer, etc.

  • Receives and stocks food from vendors

  • Rotates and inventories food & supplies weekly

  • Carefully monitors meals for allergens and provides substitutions for children with allergies and intolerances

  • Use inventory system to assist with food purchase

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Possession of or eligible for a food handler permit

  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of kitchen 

  • 1 year Experience in the food industry

  • Knowledge of personal hygiene, sanitation, and kitchen safety precautions

  • Ability to work independently and with a team

  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of kitchen and large scale preparation of food; personal hygiene, sanitation and housekeeping practices; safety precautions; operation of standard kitchen appliances and equipment

  • Ability to work with others in a team environment

Be willing to obtain

  • Washington State Portable Background Check

  • Department of Child youth and Family services Portable Background check

  • TB test

  • Food Handlers card

  • Proof of MMR
