Additionally, R&DE comprises 900 FTE staff in the following divisions: Student Housing Operations, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects, and a team of R&DE strategic business partners: Finance & Administration, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Strategic Communications.

R&DE Stanford Dining, Hospitality & Auxiliaries (SDHA), a division of Residential & Dining Enterprises, is a best-in-class dining and hospitality program serving over 25,000 meals a day by over 900+ staff in over 100+ locations, including 9 dining halls, 31 self-op row house dining, 7 co-op dining, 4 suite dining, 4 branded concepts, athletic dining, a kosher kitchen, late night dining at Lakeside, 8 cafes, 12 vendor partner programs, 1 commissary production kitchen, a pub, 3 markets, a sweet shop, 7 catering operations, Schwab Executive Dining, 5 athletic concession venues, and 2 teaching kitchens, SDHA also oversees the Stanford Food Institute, the Stanford Flavor Lab, the campus BeWell community gardens, the Stanford Food Pantry, and a staff training and development center.

This role is designated as essential and requires incumbents to report to work onsite. Telecommuting is not available for this role.

JOB PURPOSE

Employees at this level perform all tasks associated with catered food and beverage events, including preparation before events, service during the event and breakdown afterwards. Receives work direction from Catering Manager, client representative, and other members of management. Server IV is expected to have a comprehensive knowledge of task sequencing and catering standards, to understand and utilize the Banquet Event Order to ensure customer specifications are met. Organizes the work and gives work direction to Catering Server I, II, III workers. Tasks include the handling of catering related supplies, equipment, food and beverage in preparation for events, serving customer specified food and beverages, replenishing and pickup of service items during events, breakdown and clean-up after events. Employees at this level work to ensure a successful execution of banquet meal and that all customers are satisfied with the service.

CORE DUTIES

  • Acts as a liaison between client and catering department to help ensure a successful event.

  • Directly responsible for all equipment, supplies, service staff and vehicles at event

  • Ensures the safety and efficiency of staff by training and use of proper techniques

  • Orders basic catering supplies, including such items as linens, flowers, china, staffing, etc.

  • Explains service standard, event timeline and details of event to other service staff including temp agency staff

  • Coordinates and communicates with service staff before, during and after event

  • Coordinates and assists in set up and break down of event, including such items as banquet props, decorations, table drapes, linen, silverware

  • Assist in training staff.

  • Directs quality and quantity of work of lower level and temp service workers

  • May perform any of the duties described in the Catering Server III specification or other duties as assigned.

  • Adhere to safety rules

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience:

Three years previous high-end banquet experience required or a combination of equivalent education and relevant work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • This work requires cleanliness and neatness ∙ Person shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with customers and with members of the team, including management.

  • Must have appropriate knowledge of food and beverage preparation, table settings, service standards, guest relations, and etiquette.

  • This is a leadership position, and the incumbent must have the ability to learn and apply both R&DE and the University's commitment to provide and foster a respectful workplace, including but not limited to, Affirmative Action, diversity management, and maintaining a workplace free of sexual harassment.

  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language sufficient to understand menus, special promotions, communicate with customers to explain orders.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • If performing drop-off or delivery services, valid California Non-commercial Class Driver's license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*

  • The ability to stand for prolonged periods, and the ability to withstand physical exertion in lifting, moving and manipulating moderately heavy objects, such as catering equipment, tables, chairs, etc.

  • ∙ Must have ability to transport, by pushing and pulling, large trays weighing up to 50 lbs. on a continuous basis throughout shift. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. on a continuous basis throughout shift.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work schedule can fluctuate in accordance with bargaining unit contract May work late nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Person is responsible for maintaining good hygiene and grooming, as well as wearing a proper, clean uniform for the work shift.

The expected pay for this position is $30.29 (Step 1) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.

Internal candidate rates will be applied based on the CBA language for promotion and transfer.
