In early 2019, Stanford will be opening its Redwood City campus, the university's largest expansion to the original campus, which will house around 2,400 staff. Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries will be opening the Cardinal Caf and catering services on this new campus, and is looking for outstanding hospitality staff to help in this exciting new venture. The Cardinal Caf will be open to staff and the public, and will offer a variety of healthy and delicious breakfast and lunch options that include a beverage bar serving hand-made coffee, hot breakfast grill, Global Bowl bar, bountiful salad bar, a tasty vegan and vegetarian range, grass-fed beef burgers, flatbread pizzas, and a Market stocked with grab-and-go items. The Redwood City campus will also run a catering program, executing to the same exceptional standards offered at the main campus.
I. Summary of Position
This is an exciting opportunity for experienced catering support to join the Stanford team and contribute to the Redwood City campus experience. The Banquet Houseman is primarily responsible for assisting in serving, setting up, break down and clean-up of all Catering functions. Moves tables, chairs and other equipment to specific locations according to specifications of scheduled banquet functions. Maintains banquet storage area to ensure cleanliness and organization. Performs tear down and storage upon completion of banquet function. The Banquet Houseman will consistently offer professional, friendly and warm hospitality to all guests. As with all staff who join the team, the Houseman is expected to adhere to customer service relations standards, work rules, departmental policies and procedures and performance standards.
II. Essential Job Functions
Delivers food and catering equipment for Catering events, performs setting up, break down and clean-up of all Catering functions
Provides an excellent dining experience for guests, using interpersonal skills and conflict resolution, and anticipates guest needs
Sets up and break down large function dinner services and elaborate themed dinner programs, complete with food and beverage settings and linen, both on- and off-site
Assists customers with specific dietary restrictions, and answer questions regarding food ingredients
Complies with workplace safety, safe food handling and sanitation standards
Follows RDE work rules, policies, procedures, and core values
Maintains supplies neat and organized to department standards
Projects a professional image at all times through appearance and dress
Demonstrate respectful and professional behavior by maintaining a positive work environment and interactions with co-workers, management, customers and visitors
Supports other Hospitality and Auxiliaries and Cardinal Caf units as requested
Performs other duties as assigned.
The anticipated shifts are based on the operational needs and can change at any time with notice.
Monday - Friday: 4pm-11:30pm
Must have a minimum of two (2) year fine dining or catering experience within the last two (2) years
Current clean DMV driving record
Must be able to lift 50lbs and requires you to be on your feet for long periods of time
Must be willing to work a flexible and varied schedule as assigned
Has outstanding listening and communication skills with guests, peers and management
Understanding of Silver Service expectations and Principals
Committed to providing excellent customer service to all customers
Able to plan ahead, prioritizing tasks and customer service needs
Proven track record of punctuality
A Banquet Houseman must be able to provide own uniform items of black slacks, black shoes with black socks. Uniform Shirts will be provided

Follows work directions as assigned by supervisors and managers
Subject to wet floors, temperature extremes, excessive noises, and large commercial equipment. As an essential job function, worker is required to use cleaning and sanitizing chemicals.
IV. Physical Requirements
GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand for prolonged periods, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items. Physical agility critical to perform essential job functions. Lift up to 50 lbs pounds, and must have manual dexterity. Ability to work around hot equipment (stoves, grills, ovens).
