TITLE: Assistant Cook /Food Service Delivery

REPORTS TO: Lead Cook

DEPARTMENT: Food Service

HOURS PER DAY: 4

WORK YEAR: 184 Workdays

SALARY: Range 14 of the Classified Salary Schedule

BASIC FUCTION: Food handling, Preparation, Loading, and delivery

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Under direct supervision of the lead cook, prepares and cooks a variety of foods in large quantities, delivers, loads and unloads food items at specific locations as directed by the lead cook, assists in maintenance of a school kitchen, and performs other related work as required.

ESSNTIAL JOB FUCTIONS:

Assists in the preparing and serving of meals.

Checks, loads and unloads food into and from delivery vehicle.

Communicates with recipients concerning food delivery schedules and other matters related to deliveries.

Assists in washing and cleaning dishes, pots and pans and kitchen equipment.

Use prescribed menu and following established procedures and produce production menu records and schedules related to the menu.

Transport food, documents, supplies, and other materials from delivery vehicle to site of use.

Maintain records of deliveries, and meal counts.

Perform the assigned cooking tasks in the preparation of all types of foods from the main dish, vegetables, soups, salads, to baked goods.

Maintain standards of safety, sanitation, and maintenance of all equipment and report needed equipment repairs to the lead cook.

Deliver food from central kitchen to other school sites as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

One year in the preparation of large quantities of foods preferred.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

Proper methods of preparing and cooking large quantities of food.

Care and use of standard kitchen equipment and utensils.

Sanitation and safety procedures.

Must have and maintain a current California Drivers License.

Ability:

Cook skillfully, follow recipes, and establish procedures.

Operate kitchen equipment.

Understand and carry out oral and written directions and instructions.

Maintain cooperative working relationships.

Walk and push food carts to other serving areas on campus; transfer food pans from carts to serving areas.

Environment:

Food service environment. Exposure to hot and cold temperature, mechanical

equipment.

Physical Abilities:

Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds.

Standing or walking for extended periods of time.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate kitchen equipment.

Carrying, pushing or pulling food trays carts materials and supplies.

Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.

Bending at the waist, or crouching.

Hazards:

Exposure to sharp knives and mechanical equipment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Under the direction of the Recreation and Enrichment Programs Coordinator, the Recreation and Enrichment Programs Site Lead will provide leadership for the site, supervising staff members, providing high-quality academic, enrichment, and recreation activities for program participants; coordinating with school site and Community Services staff; planning, assigning and directing work; and addressing and resolving any issues that may arise with participants, parents or staff. REPRESENTATIVE DUITES: Incumbent may perform any combination of the essential functions shown below.
