Handle and store sanitized dishes, glasses and silverware.
Make sandwiches using prepared ingredients.
Portion food items into standard serving sizes using the proper utensils and containers.
Assemble and toss fresh fruit or green salads in large quantities.
Brewing coffee in a commercial size coffee maker.
Set-up communal dining areas for meal service.
Scour and scrub heavy cooking utensils such as mixing bowls and pots.
Perform heavy duty cleaning tasks such as ceilings and/or exhaust hoods.
Load and operate a continuous conveyor belt feeding dishwasher.
Set up steam-tables with hot and cold food items.
Carry out preventive maintenance and cleaning including strainer pans, and spray arms of a dish machine.
Sweep and mop floors repetitively in high traffic areas such as corridors, entry ways, and NFS preparation and serving areas.
Move kitchen equipment such as stand mixers, weight scales and meat slicers to clean spaces behind and under such equipment.
Deliver meals, which may include hot foods and liquids, to patients' bedsides or meal table.
Empty trashcans containing food scraps and waste.
Read and understand written material such as time and duty schedules.
Read and follow instructions with regard to safety data sheets for hazardous chemicals.
Read and follow instructions on menus, recipes, and/or basic work instructions.
Follow label directions in using cleaning or disinfecting/sanitizing agents.
Apply sanitation principles to safeguard food against spoilage and waste.
Adhere to safety policies and procedures when performing manual work involving lifting, carrying, transporting and delivering food or other items.

The work involves heavy physical effort in frequently lifting or moving items up to 40 pounds such as lifting bags of potatoes, containers of milk, etc., pushing heavy carts of silverware and glassware, or moving trucks in unloading, storing, and delivering supplies. When required to lift or move heavier items, assistance is available. The work may also involve scouring and/or scrubbing large-sized kitchen utensils, or operating powered cleaning equipment on ladders._ Work requires prolonged periods of standing and walking along with frequent bending, stooping, pulling and pushing.
The work is performed in a kitchen area which frequently is hot and humid due to cooking and dishwashing activities. The work area is well lighted but noisy from food service activities. While working in cooking areas, incumbent is subject to the possibility of slipping on wet floors, skin irritations from harsh-dishwashing liquids, burns, cuts, bruises, and eye injury. Incumbent is also subject to varied temperature extremes while inside walk-in refrigerator or freezer units. Incumbent must wear protective clothes, shoes, gloves, earplugs, and/or other safety and hygiene equipment as required by food handling and safety standards when performing assigned tasks.
