Work Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Supports Appalachian Food Services vision to provide above and beyond customer service and Hospitality.

  • Sets up serving lines before opening.

  • Keeps line stocked and clean.

  • Prepares food according to Unit guidelines and industry best practice.

  • Communicates with co-workers and Supervisors regarding any needs to support daily operations of business.

  • All ASU Food Service employees are required to work during home football games or any other special campus event as needed.

  • Campus work location may vary depending on the event.

  • Other duties will also be assigned by supervisor.

  • Facility clean up and the proper use of good sanitation practices a must.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position

  • Knowledge of methods of preparation and cooking of food in quantity lots.

  • Knowledge of the uses of various pieces of equipment, including but not limited to steamers, steam pots, fryers, grills, slicers, and ovens.

  • Ability to maintain high standards of personal cleanliness as well as food sanitation.

  • The job requires attention to detail, initiative, and decision-making capabilities.

  • Team player attitude and superior customer service skills are required.

  • Initiative to work beyond what is requested within the unit to achieve business goals of quality and service standards.

  • Knowledge of basic math and ability to portion serving sizes as needed.

  • Ability to interact effectively with coworkers of diverse ages, backgrounds, and interests.

  • Ability to work as a team member under rushed conditions without loss of efficiency or effectiveness.

  • Strong customer service skills, the ability to follow written and verbal instructions, and the ability to prepare and serve food while adhering to Appalachian State Campus Dining, and the State Board of Health regulations.

  • Demonstrates engaging customer service to the Appalachian community.

Preferred Qualifications

2+ years of related front of house food service experience. ServSafe certification should be obtained within 1 year of employment.

Campus Dining is a Sunday

  • Saturday, 6:00 am

  • 11:00 pm operation. Operations are reduced during university breaks. Employees are scheduled two days off each week based on business need. Days off may not be consecutive days off.

Operations are reduced during university breaks. Employees may be required to work some flex hours to support the needs of the business and/or for special campus events. Schedules will be adjusted as needed to provide coverage in these cases. Position requires standing for the entire 8-hour shift.
