Position Summary

The Food Service Manager is responsible for a large-scale food production operation and distribution of meals in a highly complex food service program at Waupun Correctional Institution, a maximum-security adult male correctional institution. Responsibilities include preparing meals from standardized recipes; specialized diets; assuring proper food preparation for on-line and off-line food service feeding; ordering and maintaining food and non-food items and inventory; developing and implementing policies and procedures; supervision of staff and inmate workers; as well as provision of staff assistance to the Food Service Administrator in managing the day-to-day operations of the Food Service Department within security guidelines. This position serves as Assistant Food Service Administrator and assumes overall responsibility for the Food Service operation in the absence of the Food Service Administrator.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 81-04 with a starting pay of $25.00/hour - $37.30/hour. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

This position is not eligible for remote work.

This position may work holidays and weekends, and other times as needed and/or directed. This position performs physical tasks such as lifting, carrying objects, bending, walking, standing, and pushing/pulling carts.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience in the following:

  • Management or oversight of large-scale food production (i.e. portion control, waste control, nutritional adequacy, etc.)

  • Assurance of proper health, sanitation and safety standards

  • Quality and inventory control, including ordering food and supplies

  • Leadership or supervision of staff (i.e. training, lead work, performance evaluation, etc.)
