Cook/Manager - FY 25

Description:

To ensure the efficient operation of the school kitchen, adhering to state and local health and safety regulations. Oversees food production, ordering and record keeping so that they are in conjunction with state and federal guidelines. This position is in a fast paced high school serving a student population of 800.

Responsibilities:

Determine duties for each staff member in consultation with the Food Service Director.

Maintain an accurate and organized ordering and receiving system.

Prepare and keep daily production records, cash reports and cash deposits.

Transport money to the food service office and if necessary to the bank.

Verify that all invoices get to the food service office in a timely manner.

Manage payroll, time sheets and turn them in weekly.

Conduct monthly food/supply inventory in a timely manner.

Ensure proper procedures for recognizing students who are eligible for free, reduced and paid lunches in accordance with state and federal regulations.

Replace staff when absent when discussed with the Food Service Director.

Set the tone for a positive working atmosphere.

Provide catering when necessary or arrange for a staff member in the same kitchen to.

Attend monthly Food Service Directors meetings.

Report problems or concerns to the Food Service Director.

Ensure that the staff is using USDA guidelines and proper food service sanitation and safety procedures.

Responsible for securing the storerooms and refrigeration at end of the shift.

Adhere to employee uniform policy.

Serve as a positive role model for students.

Adhere to the highest standards of customer service.

Report inappropriate student behavior to a teacher or the principal.

Perform all other duties assigned by the Food Service Director.

Qualifications:

Food service management experience and or School Nutrition experience desirable.

Ability to prepare menued foods for students, faculty and staff daily.

Strong knowledge of food production, ordering, and preparing food in large quantities.

Managerial experience, marketing skills, personell managaement and training.

Ability to use and care for equipment, supplies and food preparation equipment.

Competence in using computerized Point of Sale system. Knowledge of sanitation and safety practices.

Sanitation certification is a plus

Additional Information

Ability to prepare and set up catered functions

Perform simple math equations

Prepare and cook in large quantities

Evidence knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures and practices.

The physical and environmental demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Lift a minimum of 25 pounds and have the ability to work in different physical environments (freezer, kitchen)

Possess ability to stand for a 6 hour shift or longer.

Must be able to effectively communicate with staff, students, families, and others.
