POSITION: Food Service Cook

REPORTS TO: Food Service Manager and/or Director

STARTING DATE: As soon as possible

SUMMARY: Oversees and performs a variety of tasks in the preparation and cooking of food; performs all related work as required; conforms to schedules established by the Food Service Manager.

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school graduate or equivalent.

• Pleasant, cheerful attitude toward co-workers, student and adult customers.

• Ability to maintain Health Department regulations.

• At least two years of experience as a Cook or comparable experience.

• Ability to effectively lead and coordinate the work activities of all kitchen staff in assigned location.

• Possession of the necessary physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position.

• Maintains Food Safety Manager certification

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Exercises working supervision over kitchen staff assigned to his/her school.

• Reads and interprets menus and recipes.

• Operates standard cooking equipment such as mixers, ranges, steamers, slicers….

• Manages, orders, prepares and cooks food for all menu items.

• Maintains equipment and facilities.

• Takes care of milk and dairy products.

• Manages line service and a la carte items that are assigned.

• Fills in for Kitchen Leaders in emergency situations.

• Manages the storage and rotation of stock.

• Trains new employees.

• Maintains cashier efficiency, handles cash as required and makes balanced daily bank deposit.

• Leader in continuous improvement to minimize waste and maximize departmental efficiency

• Familiar with and follows all District, State and Federal food service rules and regulations

• Performs other duties as required.

WAGES AND BENEFITS:

• Starting pay is $13.39 / hour

• Training will be provided

• Employees will be enrolled in the MI schools retirement system
