The incumbent is responsible for the testing of food sample using scientific principles towards food products that are palatable, and convenient. The incumbent prepares sample for processing and maintains documentation of process to facilitate analysis procedures.

Job Duties

  • Read, calculate and record analysis data to produce a report for the client. Correct any discrepancies that occur on the worksheet.

  • Prepare sample for analysis by recording case information, weighingc and measuring.

  • Set up sensory surveys according to project proposals, prepare samples and recruit consumers for sensory testing.

  • Maintain accurate quality control documentation of analysis procedures.

  • Assist other departmental personnel with analysis procedures.

  • Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities.

  • Support corporate quality and continuous improvement process.

  • This position has the responsibilities and authority to identify departures from the quality system or test procedures and document such observations in accordance with the prescribed complaint system.

  • Perform other related tasks as needed.

VIEW JOBS 3/14/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-06-12T00:00 Classification Title: Medical Scientist III Job Description: The Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology is looking to fill a Medical Scientist III position. * Define goals for a given research project in conjunction with faculty and/or other laboratory personnel. This includes reading and interpreting both published manuscripts and abstracts. These research issues are then used, in conjunction with ongoing laboratory projects, to generate new hypotheses. After the new hypotheses are generated, the individual is expected to implement procedures to test these hypotheses. As necessary, the individual will be expected to develop, test and implement new procedures independently. Some of these procedures may be publishable innovations. * Prepare both written and oral reports of research findings. This includes writing the materials and methods section and the results section of the research reports. In addition, the individual will assist the editing of other sections. These reports will be used for manuscripts, abstracts and grant submissions. The level of involvement will be appropriate for inclusion as an author on these publications. Research reports will also include oral presentation. The individual will present their results, with appropriate conclusion, at research meetings both within the laboratory, within the Division of Nephrology, Hypertension and Transplantation, and at inter-divisional or meetings. * Coordinates scientific services for clients. This includes coordination collaborative projects with other laboratories. The individual will be expected to interact with principal investigator, post-doctoral fellows and other research personnel in laboratories both within and outside the Division of Nephrology, Hypertension and Transplantation. * An essential skill is the ability to recognize technical problems and correct them independently. Results are summarized in a computer database and appropriate conclusions reached. * Perform molecular and cellular biology studies utilizing new and existing techniques, as appropriate. These techniques may include, but are not limited to, isolation of total RNA, mRNA, protein, membrane protein and nuclei. Analytic techniques include, but are not limited to, calculation of DNA, RNA and protein concentration in sample, immunoblot analysis, northern and southern procedures using film or digital image acquisition, real time RT-PCR techniques, PCR and RT-PCR, gene sequencing, genetic cloning and heterologous expression of cloned genes. * Analyze cell transport studies using radio-isotope uptake or fluorometric or fluorescent techniques, as appropriate. * Coordinate animal studies requiring specialized diets and/or fluids for laboratory animals. This may include, but is not limited to, providing diets to animals or the animal care personnel, verifying that animals are eating and/or drinking appropriately through visual verification and, possibly, through regular weighing of animals and/or diet. * Coordinate interactions with regulatory agencies or organizations that oversee laboratory activities; * (1) insuring that adequate supplies of chemical reagents, animals and other laboratory equipment are available; (2) overseeing that correct billing occurs; and (3) communicating with service representatives for maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment. * Maintain cultured cell lines using appropriate techniques. * Perform other duties as necessary for the smooth and orderly functioning of the laboratory.
